DD applied to her #1 choice school under Early Decision. Decisions will be announced on Dec. 15. She is now having second thoughts about the commitment of ED, and we've advised her to contact the school and switch her application to non-binding Early Action. Here's the question: Do schools look unfavorably upon this switch? Will it be held against her? Any negative repercussions you are aware of? Thanks for any advice.

I could be mistaken but I’ve never heard of a college that offered binding ED and also a concurrent non-binding EA option. I’m almost certain that before decisions are announced, you can withdraw from the binding ED and go into Regular Decision – i.e. an answer in April.

T26E4 - This school has 3 options - ED (Nov. 1), EA (Dec. 1) and RD (Feb. 1). I’m pretty sure we can switch, but I wonder if it will affect how the admissions counselors view her application.

This is not the school the OP is speaking of, but Colorado College also offers ED/EDII and EA as well as RD. It isn’t common but it is out there.

I think the only way to find out is to call them. I don’t think there will be a negative repercussion other than you lose that little help that you get for ED.
