Switching from EDII to RD before decisions come out?

Hi all,

I’ve recently found myself in a pickle. You see, back in December, I applied EDII to what I had thought was my dream school (Let’s call it X University). I didn’t really want to put myself in a binding agreement, but I had such a low chance of getting in (it’s a fairly large reach for me) that I figured why not if it’d help my chances.

Now, as you might have gathered from the title—I’ve changed my mind. A couple days ago I had an interview for a special program that I’m applying to at another school, “Y University”, (which had been around third on my list), and realized how much I actually wanted to go/how much I loved the program.

Even though my chances of getting into my ED school are low, I’m terrified that I’ll miss the opportunity to go to Y University if I do get in. Decisions for Y University come out around February 1st, and X University’s decisions come out in “mid-February” (assumedly the 15th).

Is it possible to change my X University application to EDII to RD? Also, if it is possible—should I do it now or wait until I hear back from Y University on the 1st, or would be cutting it too close?

Thanks for any help in advance.

I think you can withdraw your application (?) if you end up getting into the other school. Maybe you can switch to RD. I don’t know. Research this specific school’s policies. Contact them, and see if you can switch. I’m sure you can.

Switch. Quickly.

So you need to make two switches? Tomorrow, I would contact the AO for the new ED II school and confirm that it’s not too late as it’s getting pretty late in the process.

@Chembiodad Nope, just the one from EDII to RD. I’d already applied EA to the other school, hence its February 1st date.

Contact the EDII school and ask to be moved to RD. They will move you.
