Any questions about CU?

$2000 is good. You'll be fine with that. You can always start saving when you get low.

I'm not getting ****. My family was right on the borderline, but they did not take the mortgage into account.

I have no clue how much debt I will have when I graduate, but I do not think it will be that bad. Given that I am going into I-Banking, I shouldn't have a problem paying it off. But I couldn't give you exact figures, my parents do not really discuss their balances with me that specifically.

Neither do mine, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Columbia is going to think we can afford a bit more than my parents actually can.

what has been your easiest year so far and why?

I'm not gonna go into specifics, but I would say that my Columbia package was significantly better than my Cornell package.

Soph yr was easy bc I knew what I was doing but I hadn't started taking hard courses yet. Freshman yr was easy, but some people have trouble adjusting to college work I guess so I can't say for you.

I'll keep my cautious pessimism. That way the only surprises will be positive. :)

what's the biggest change from high school style work to college level work?

what i mean is - what is your typical college course assignment(s) during any given week?

There is a lot more work, but I didn't do much work during high school, since I was pretty smart as I am sure most of you are.

All I can tell you is that you will manage it. It just becomes second nature, you won't be too stressed out until midterms or finals.

I can't put an actual assignment amount per week on it, I mean the beginning of the semester is no work and then it gets progressively tougher as you get closer to finals time. Everyone is in the same boat and everyone survives, so don't worry about it. But it will challenge you and make you a better person.

haha yea that was the only reason i was asking - i did zero work in high school, so ive been kind of tense when it comes to my future colleg workload

*college

figured id correct myself after seeing what happened to that "collage" guy in the other thread haha

what are you majoring in? do people manage to change majors or double major and get through in four years, given the core. (just so you know -- I'm a parent of a first year CC student)

There is no reason to change majors becuase you don't even have to decide until the very end of sophomore year. It is not "hard to change", I mean anyone can change at anytime, its just a matter of planning early enough so that if you do change, you have time to take all the necessary courses. Summer classes can help if you change really late.

Then again, majors don't matter at all lol so I wouldn't worry about it. I am an Econ major because I want to go into business, but a lot of people going into the field are in non-econ majors.

If I had the choice to go back and choose another major without worrying about my career, I would take Psych since I really like the teachers for it at CU. However, I will make better money by going into banking and I feel Econ prepares me better for that lifestyle.

The econ department seems huge there. Can you interact with econ profs if you make an effort?

Haven't bothered. But some of my friends have gone to talk to them.

It's simple, they have a few office hours a week and you can go then. They are required to hold office hours by the university.

thanks. I'll leave the thread to the youngsters now. Hey, shouldn't you be studying for finals?:D

I am, on and off. I don't get frantic until tomorrow though. Then its time for all kinds of stimulants to keep me going all night.

Do most people have an unlimited subway pass?

how hard is to have 2 majors? are there many people who do this?
and how much freedom is there in course selection for freshman year?

I don't know too many people with an unlimited. Most use regular.

A few people double major, but not many. You can do a concentration, which is like a minor, and more people do a major-concentration combo than a double major.

There is plenty of freedom, but you should look into getting most of the Core out of the way. The classes are interesting so it shouldn't be that much of a hassle.

I am going to study now. Maybe I will be back later this weekend. Maybe not. Good luck!

would you suggest Furnald if I dont like sharing bathrooms with alot of people?
