Any Questions?

Well i have a question. I want to pursue a career as a medical doctor..so should I opt for CALS or CAS? Does it solely matter on my other interests? Or do one of these have a better turn-out rate for applicants applying to med school?

I really dunno too much about the options for pre med. Most kids do bio, through CAS. However, ive also seen kids doing everything from physics to philosophy to theatre as a pre-med track. I think its more about getting down the basic classes needed for med school acceptance and doing well on the MCAT test. However, again, I really dont know too much about the process.

perro you're up late. I have a question, what time do cornell students go to sleep?

do u know anything about the interior design major or students at cornell? thanks.

depends on when you ask. it may surprise you that many pull all-nighters around tuesdays and thursdays (as those are prelim days)

as for TXA (I hope that's what you're asking wgtc) it's a pretty chill major. i dunno much about it except its in humec and i only know like 2 ppl doing it. there is also a concentration in the hotel school which i think is interesting and that's what my friend transferred in to do.

Cornell students NEVER go to sleep :) :)

Which school is the toughest academically?

Do you mean college within Cornell, or university in the country, or what?

ahh I'm going to be staying at Cornell on Friday and I can't be more excited. Perro if there are any good parties that you know of instant message me or something. My friend whos going to Penn next year is going with me and we are seeing the Cornell vs Penn bball game.

1) How is Cornell's food, in terms of quality and cheapness? Most of the people I know at UNC choose to live off of ramen noodles and pizza...

2) How difficult is it to get hard liquor? Beer is fine, but really, nothing beats Jack...

3) How much is there to do on campus in terms of activities/groups (other than parties of course)? How political are Cornell students?

4) And most importantly, of course: IS THERE ANYWHERE TO GET CAJUN FOOD IN ITHACA?

edit: 5) Does anybody play poker at Cornell?

Jcas: Dunno about friday, but if you are sticking around for saturday I know of a few things....Just keep your ears open for the buzz on campus; some days are dead and some are pretty hot. Spring semester is nothing like fall semester when it comes to open parties, I'm afraid to say. Anyhow, yeah, IM me or something and I'll let you know if anything has come up.

Ohnoes:
1) Cornell's food is great, period. This was discussed in great depth earlier in this thread. But yeah I have friends who go to state schools and never eat on campus. This is usually not the case at Cornell, and even the spoiled rich picky kids dont complain too much.

2) Not very. If you have a GOOD fake (don't try to pass anything at collegetown liquor) and you know the right places you should be ok. It's easier though to just make some connections with a person who is legal; it makes the matter less complicated.

3) Lots. Very.

4) I'm afraid not, at least not that I know of. Being from the South, I feel your pain. You can't even get a gaddamned piece of fried chicken or pit barbeque here, let alone good cajun food.

5) A whole lot of people play poker. There are 3 kids in my unit alone who play online constantly, do tournaments, and go to casinos every other weekend or so.

How is multicultural/black/latin/asian greek life?

What is the general perception of the kids who don't drink? Are they shunned, respected, or just plain boring. I am always busy with lots of friends having tons of fun but NONE of them drink. I've never seen the stuff.

(and no, we're not social outcasts. Homecoming queen, yadda yadda. There is an incredible taboo on drinking in my group of friends. Just don't see the point.)

It's perfectly okay not to drink at Cornell. There are still plenty of ways to hang out and have fun.

The problem is, one of the main venues for Cornellians to have fun on Thurs/Fri/Sat nights are frat parties. Obviously, there is no rule that says you must drink when you attend a party but the majority of people will be drinking so you may feel left out. I was with some friends at another college a couple of weeks ago and they were all smoking (and not all legal stuff) and I was the only person not smoking so it was a little awkward for me. But it didn't entice me to smoke one bit. Stick to your principles and if you make an effort, you should have no problems having a good social life.

nice norcal...which college is this? lol,

"How is multicultural/black/latin/asian greek life?"

Its small but active. The biggest greeks are less than 15 people for the most part and they don't have nearly as many parties as "white" greeks (mostly due to their lack of houses). The MGLC does put together a couple of events each year and they usually get a large turn out.

Star, do they have large step shows? Are they limited to slope day?

At slope day there is a stroll competition that most of the greeks participate in. In late April (usually during DHW if they do it at all) there is a show called the Greekfreek. Its a large step show/ stroll show with chapters from other schools as well as Cornell greeks participating. I was pretty good this past year.

Niiice... I'm SO glad I'm going to a school with a more sizeable black population. Thanks Starmel ^_^

the black population is also pretty diverse. I remember going to an Africana Diaspora that had a beauty pageant for king and queen (mainly queen) from different countries. it was pretty hot, and the food and show was pretty hot. and i remember going, at the end of it though, to a poetry dealy called ice cold or something that talked about EVERYTHING. the black pop. is pretty active in my eyes ^_^
