<p>Maybe try those philosophical essays with open-ended questions...Try fastweb search and you'll find a lot. Writing your opinion on an important issue, important event in your life, why you deserve the scholarship, etc.</p>
<p>Look local! Check to see if there is an essay contest for students in your state, region, etc.</p>

<p>Ayn Rand essay contests. If you're in 9th or 10th you have to read "Anthem" an excellent book, very short too, and do an essay. 11th or 12th read The Fountainhead, good book, but loooooooong. And college you can do it on Atlas Shrugged. Never read it but supposedly very good. Just google Ayn Rand scholarship</p>
