A friend of a friend is looking for a boarding school that still accepts students. I've done some research and on the SSAT website, they have said that they will post an SCAA list in May which will locate current openingsbut question is, when exactly?

SSAT - Finding a School

I've been asked to help so hopefully I can get some answers. Do you happen to know any BS that might not have been fully enrolled and have openings? I've been told that it is preferred to be near the DC area but if there are other options, I will let them know.

Your help is much appreciated!

P.S. Also, congratulations to all those admitted for this upcoming fall. I used to post here from time to time during the admission process. I'm sure you all are looking forward to BS experience as much as I am.

Someone just mentioned Westtown in another thread. It appears to have both rolling admissions and a generaous financial aid profile. Worth a call.

Williston North Hampton is still interviewing students for places in their boarding classes for September enrollment.

If you’re looking for 9th grade, you should consider contacting the junior boarding schools as well.

Tread carefully - I looked at the SSAT list because I’m concerned about some of my friends who are seeking spots for their children. I noted that several schools on the SSAT list show “open” for Fall 2011 but there are a number of CC families waitlisted at those schools (many due to FA needs)

That suggests the schools that are open - are likely open for full pay families.

Can’t hurt to call, but don’t be surprised if they’re tapped out on FA.

Randolph-Macon Academy (disclaimer: I also work at the Academy) in Front Royal, VA, is still accepting applications. It’s only 70 miles from DC, an easy drive straight out I-66…as easy as traveling in the DC area gets, anyway! My son is a junior at Randolph-Macon, and he loves it. It’s worth a look!

Repeating my familiar refrain: If you’re applying to 8th or 9th grade, you should consider the junior boarding schools. Some may still have spots available and you can then apply out for the following year and consider a full and appropriate range of schools. Our family has had very good experiences with junior boarding schools. Applying to a boarding high school as an experienced boarder is a definite plus. A few schools to consider:

Coed: The Bement School (Deerfield, MA), The Fay School (MA), Rumsey Hall (CT), Indian Mtn School (CT)

Boys: Cardigan Mountain School (Canaan, NH), Eaglebrook (Deerfield, MA), Fessenden (MA)

Some Northern New England Boardings Schools usually have space available into early June (Brewster Academy, Gould Academy, Holderness School, Kimball Union Academy, and Proctor Academy). Probably a lot depends on the grade you are applying for.

Also, sometimes the single-gender schools have openings later in the game as well.
