Any social science or English courses that I can get A+'s in?

Hey all, so I'm in need of a GPA boost next semester and need two 4-credit courses that I can get A+'s in. The courses don't need to have median grades of A+ (maybe A or A- instead), but the A+ just needs to be realistic without having to dedicate your life to the class. Any suggestions? I was hoping for something at the 3000-level, maybe in Anthro, English, or History.

FYI a lot of those classes do not give out an A+. No class will have a median grade of A+. Think about it - everyone would have an A+.

given the definition of median, all it takes to have an A+ median grade is for slightly more than half the class to get an A+. there were (and I presume still are) always a few classes with a median grade of A+.

I can’t really help you though. I thought creative writing was a great English course, and an A was very attainable. however, those sections all close out extremely quickly so I doubt you’d be able to find a slot.

I’ve taken a few english/social science classes where I’ve done extremely well and still haven’t gotten an A+. Most professors in those subjects consider an A+ to basically be unattainable, reserved for only a select few students each year (I mean, consider the last time you received a paper back with no comments other than Excellent!–that doesn’t happen in college). A’s on the other hand would be doable.

I remember Anthro 1400 was really easy, but I think that it might have changed a lot since when I took it three years ago, not sure. Versions of Versailles (FREN 2720?) is decent–if you prefer tests over essays you’d like it, I don’t so I kind of hated it. I got an A- but would have gotten an A if it were essay based for sure. Comm 1300 was easy but a 9am class so it only really works if you’re actually interested in it (lecture is important).

My recommendation would be to just find something you’re interested in! There are so many courses in those subjects that can fit anything you like, really. Sports? Anthropology of Sports. Medicine? Anthropology of Medicine, and I’m sure there are history classes that focus on epidemics Music? There are several based on hip-hop and pop culture in the HIST and COML. Fashion? There are several in ARTH and HIST. Politics and War? HIST obviously. Really just go through the course catalog–there is literally something for everyone.

The majority of classes aren’t extremely hard or extremely easy, but just somewhere in the middle, and if you’re actually interested in what you’re learning, you’ll probably do well and have fun too.

Two I have taken that would be extremely easy to get an A+ in are Hollywood Biology PL 2490 and DEA (1200?) Human Environmental Relations. Neither are in the subjects you listed, but there you have it.

I heard that the Africana Studies department has a few classes with A+ medians, but that article was from a couple years ago. COGST 1101 gives A+ grades for a 96.7 or higher and offers 3% extra credit, so you technically just need to get a 93.7 average on the tests. However, this is easier said than done since the tests consist of written response and those are difficult to score perfect on; the median for the tests is around an 80 I think. I know a lot of Human Ecology classes have a median of A, so you might look into that, but that might not be “social science.” It is probably easier to get them in STEM classes or wholly test-based classes since the grading in those is less holistic.

Check out some of Prof. Shefter’s classes (Government). They may not be the most exciting, but they’re easy to do well in. He offers an extra credit essay that allows you to bump your final grade up by two grade increments, i.e. A- to A+ (at least when I took his class two years ago, but he probably still offers this).

I am not try to be a jerk and take over this thread but can you guys also tell me some easy science courses.

The problem will be if some of the professors change for courses and they do.

alamode mentioned DEA 1500 Human-Environment Relations. The median grade is an A and it is EXTREMELY easy to get an A but is nearly impossible to get an A+. I was disappointed in the course and thought it was a lot of hype (like many big courses at Cornell like PSYCH 101).

In general, I have found that essay-based courses are more difficult to get A+ in than prelim-based courses since no essay can ever be perfect! From what my friends have said it seems that COMM classes are easy to get A+ in. Of course there is also the famous Essential Desktop Applications that has a median grade of A+ and is about how to make PowerPoints but is difficult to get into for obvious reasons.

Easy science course is hands down Oceanography in the fall.

DEA 1500 Human-Environment Relations isn’t that great according to my D. She was at the mercy of the TA’s for the final and they graded very hard.

weird, I took DEA 1500 and idk, I took it pass/fail so I didn’t study too much for anything or work too hard on the assignments, but I still had such a high grade that I was able to just not take the final because I would still have >70 with a 0 on my final.

INFO 2040: Networks is crosslisted as SOC and it’s an easy A+ and extremely interesting.

My friend had a miserable experience with Networks. He told me he got a 90% overall but was curved down to a B. I think it’s only offered in the fall anyway

Sociology or anthro or psych
