Any Sociology majors at UC or applicants?

How hard is the subject of sociology?

It's typically known as the easiest, least respected major. Sorry, I don't mean to offend any Soc majors. But, it's a good major if your goal is to transfer to a good university with the least amount of work, both in quantity and difficulty. A good choice if you intend to go to post graduate study, such as law and such.

I've never heard that. Backup the contention with some sources, wrathletik.

Any wide reaching complaint directed at sociology can probably be directed at all the social sciences.

A lot of people look down on subjects like psychology, political science, philosophy, sociology, etc.

It's okay...in the end its the social science majors who rule the world XD

Are you a Soc major Gabe? Of course, you've never heard that. People aren't gonna be mean to your face. Look, if you like Soc then good for you. Study it and enjoy it. Im not complaining about it at all. I like the fact that there are soc courses available to us. The material is not terribly boring, it's not difficult to grasp and it's a good way to pad your GPA if you can use a Soc course to fulfill a breadth requirement. So, If my goal was to go to grad school or whatnot, I would definitely opt to be a Soc major. There would be little risk for a low GPA and I would have loads of time to party, be involved in a lot of EC's to put on my grad school app and enjoy my undergrad experience.

(4||53 |-|3 \/\/4||75 70 |00|< 1337

Translation: Cause he wants to look leet.

Yeah...I'm a loser.

wow i've played gamse all my life and all i understood was 1337

you guys need to stop hating on gabe. he made a correct generalization: all complaints about social science majors are pretty much homogenous. however, they're also all falacious; which explains why the majority of higher echelon investment bankers are social science majors as opposed to any other field of majors..especially in that kind of field, where it is intensely quantitatively driven, humanities and social science majors seem to rise to the creme de le creme; its too bad my dad refuses to pay for a degree in any of those majors, though. hohohohoho.

I don't understand why people care whether a subject is difficult enough for them to get their degree in. I guess if your parents won't pay for it, then you have no choice (my heart goes out to you, zemook)I'm an Anthro major which is kind of a sister discipline to sociology. Yea, it's pretty easy, but it's also f***ing fascinating and it happens to be my passion. Social scientists find new ways of looking at humanity and the different groups within it. What if there were no sociological studies out there for people to reference when making crucial decisions? For instance, the current immigration debate. There wouldn't even be an argument in opposition to harsh immigration laws if no one knew that immigrants (often illegal) do the jobs US citizens (for the most part) won't do, like janitorial work. Where do you think we got this info? Sociologists.

I'd rather not go to school than major in sociology.

Guys, most grad schools like Pharm, Medical, Dental, Law, Optom, etc etc do not care what ur undergrad major as long as u take ur required science classes. Now there are even talks that they prefer sociological type majors b.c these jobs require a lot of communication w/ diverse people.

GPA is crucial for these grad schools thats why i asked about the dificulty. There are certain classes/majors where only very small fraction of the class gets A.

Squarepeg, i have never taken a socio or anthro class, but i am very fascinated about people's behavior and culture, so I'd enjoy studying it. I even thought about trying to become a psychologist. But, want to go into medicine though. I would proly enjoy it more than memorizing bio (done that), doing calculus( done that), solving chem (done that).

I dunno if UC will let me to do since i've never taken a socio class. It's ok though, i am use to studying things that i don's have much intrest in. It's just another day for me.

Iampprehensive, what was it about my post that led you to percieve that I have an ego? Soc courses have been great for me.

It's pretty hard....you have to take difficult classes like Algebra II and Music Appreciation

^oh man LOL. That was a good one.

i know nothing about socio, but i do know if requires 15 upper devision classes. Most of them require proly a lot of read/writing.

No, I'm not.
