Any Stock Traders on CC?

So over the past two years or so I've developed this hobby of trading stocks in my free time, do any of you CC'ers engage in the stock market? If so, what are your favorite companies and industries?

Are you talking paper trading or actual trading? I didn’t even know you could trade stocks as a kid.

Actual trading. You can trade stocks if a legal guardian signs off as a ‘custodian’ for your trading account.

I own some Starbucks stock

I know a rich kid that trades stocks, he made tens of thousands off of Martha Stewert’s company.

Yes but I stopped last August when things started going bad.

I do lots of virtual trading. My family’s not well off enough that we can risk any substantial amount of money with stocks. At the moment I’m extremely interested in the ETFs SKF and SRS. They’re at nearly all time lows and it’s because of this phony boom we’ve been seeing these last two months. I feel like SKF will shoot up to well over $100/share once we see the next dip, and SRS will max out around $100/share. Otherwise, I’ll hold on to GLD for a while. Commodities also seem like a good buy right now, though I don’t know of any particular stocks worth looking at.

I picked up some Lockheed Martin last fall, and I’m going to hold onto it at least until the economy gets better, maybe past that.

I’d tell you where I’m investing, but I’m a good trader .

Me. I managed to get some great stocks at the beginning of November, and they’ve been going up ever since.

A kid next to me in my computer class bought $2,000 worth of Ford stock the other day-while we were just sitting in class. $2,000 is a lot of $$$.

Yeah, trading is quite fascinating, I received a portfolio to manage that was down by approximately 250K last August and after about 9 months it’s only down by about 65K =)

lol I sold $10,000 worth of Ford stock two weeks ago, the recession isn’t all that bad =)

I’m using a technical analysis approach to small caps right now since I really don’t have that much money. You can make quite a lot by just paying attention to the charts. I do have a position in Marathon Oil, but thats for the long term. I’d really like to learn about options but I think i’ll stick with stocks at the moment. If your interested in the stock market and want to know more I suggest you go to investopedia.com and look up some common terms and educate yourself before you even decide to put a penny into the stock market. Hotstockmarket.com is a great forum for all traders alike also.

Another great website to learn about the stock market is morningstar.com

^ did your parents set you up with 500k or so? that’s crazy. my dad gave me a fair amount of money with which to trade, but no way would he trust me with six or seven figures.

Lol my dad works for apple so we got their stock at a discount right after the worst of the recession so I’ve already made a few grand.

Anybody a fan of Jim cramer on here?

Lol I can see it now…

DataBox: Dad, I have some bad news.
DataBox’s Dad: What is it son? Did you get a 99 on a test?
DataBox: No, I lost 250K on the stock market last week.

I traded Exxon/Cisco/Diamonds awhile back. I remember buying a bunch of Cisco for like $15/share, watching it go up to $28, and being depressed when it just sank lol.

@RebelT09: Yes. Very much so, along with Peter Schiff.
