Any suggestions for public colleges/universities with good art programs?

I'm applying for all my dream art colleges (OTIS, MICA, CIA. etc) but I want to have a backup plan. I'm mostly looking for an inexpensive state college with a good graphic design program. Do you guys have any suggestions for me?

VCU is the first one that comes to mind. Michigan as well.

Tyler @ Temple U. in Philadelphia. All art students take the foundation year as freshmen. Graphic Design students apply to the program during sophomore year. VCU is another good state school.

@wbasbc don’t forget to check out School of Art and Art History and the University of IA. My D applied there as a backup in case she didn’t get enough scholarship money from her first choice private art colleges. A very reputable program. Plus . . . they are building the coolest new art facility there using a very well known architect known for doing work in public spaces, campus and so forth. When done, they will have two fantastic state of the art facilities. Finally, IA is generous with out of state aid. Good luck!!

As was mentioned above, VCU is an excellent program. Tyler School of Art at Temple U. Is another strong program. An additional state university with a strong art school is SUNY Purchase.

SUNY New Paltz has a strong art program too.

How about University of Delaware or North Carolina State?
