Any Theater for Non-Tisch students?

My daughter loves acting, and improv/sketch comedy. She hopes to go to NYU but does not want to go to Tisch because she is not ready to make a full committment to acting yet.
Are there clubs or smaller theatrical productions at NYU that non-Tisch students can try out for, or are all acting opportunities only for Tisch students? I have called the admissions office numerous times about this but no one seems to know.

I understand that the Gallatin Theater group does some shows open to all students in the university. Check out http://www.nyu.edu/clubs/gallatintheatre

there are plenty of clubs to join that are involved in theater. also, there is a major in steinhardt that is involved with educational theater.

Thanks. But are there any actual plays to try out for that are not restricted to Tisch? Are there any comedy or improv groups?

Catherine, here's a link to a list of clubs and extracurriculars available to students at NYU. Look under the section on Arts, Performance, etc.

There are definitely groups which put on shows. SHMUTZ is one such group which is open to any NYU student.

As for improv, here you go:

Hope that helps! :)

alwaysamom, that was a really, really helpful post! Thanks. My daughter loves the idea of going to NYU and wants to continue in dramatic theatre (no musicals) and in improv/sketch comedy, but isn't ready to commit to a pre-professional program like Tisch - maybe for graduate school if she's still interested. It sounds like she could find a way to keep up her acting at NYU even in CAS, where she'll probably apply.
