My daughter was accepted to The Drexel Honors college and the Music Industry program. We went to the Honors Accepted Students Reception the other night and needless to say she was not very impressed with either the kids or the honors dorm. Even though they say the Music Industry program is so selective, no one is really pursuing her and her financial aid package wasn't great. We really don't know what to think at this point. Any thoughts, insights, advice would be appreciated!

Hi, 3xamom. Sometimes you juts don’t hit it off well with a certain college. I know many people that don’t really like the feel of Drexel for whatever reason, some would rather go to a college on a farm. However, you do want to make sure that you at least get the best experience you can get when visiting the school. I know a few cases with people not liking Drexel when they visited because they had a bad tour guide or they didn’t take the initiative to do some other stuff. When someone else gave them a tour or explained to them everything it made a whole lot of difference and they ended up really loving the school. If your financial aid package is not that good you can always appeal. Also, I’m not a big fan of the “honors dorm” either. It really depends on what kind of person you are, there are some current students including on this thread who will say the “honors dorm” is a lot better for this and that reasons, but personally I think its not worth it because it costs more money, its less social, has thin walls, and its just overall ugly because it was built on a low budget and doesn’t blend in with the campus well. Lastly, What exactly do you mean by not being impressed with the kids?

My son is accepted into the BS/MBA Music Industry program (he’ll do the technology track if he decides to got there). We’ll be there for accepted students day on Sunday, and he has auditions for several things over the weekend (for performance scholarships).

He was accepted at UT Austin, Indiana and Bradley, but is really focused on Drexel because of the MI curriculum, which sounds fantastic. He’s a musician, composer, self-producer who plays multiple instruments, sings vocal jazz and madrigal music and is also a film-maker. so the drexel program sounds idea. Only hangup is the expense. Even after appeal, it’s still 29,000/yr tuition/room and board. He got a 13,000 academic scholarship and a stafford loan (on appeal he also got a “stimulus” loan). I think the killer is the fact that that room and board is so much higher than everywhere else.

But we shall see. He is top 10 percent of his class, with a 4.98/5 GPA and a 30 ACT, so he’s a really good student. We’ve heard that Drexel is really an up and coming school, but it’s still way more expensive than Bradley (which is his number two choice), where he also was awarded substantial academic money.
