Any tips for getting in off the wait list at Rice?

I'm hoping to get into Rice University off the wait list..I have already submitted a letter of interest but I feel like everyone else will do that too. What else can I also do to set myself apart? Some people have suggested calling in, but 1) what is there really to say besides "I really wanna be a Rice Owl!" and 2) does that not get annoying for the admission officer when people call in just to say stuff like that?

Think of ways that you can add your energy to the campus. Look at the list of clubs
and think of one that you could lead that doesn’t already exist. Carefully explain how your high school experience equips you to develop and guide such a club. Also, share an update about a project you’re working on these days that you would like to expand at Rice – maybe naming classes and profs who you would like to study with. I hope it works out well for you! Keep brainstorming and you’ll come up with your own ideas.

Thanks. Though it looks like Rice already went to their wait list, and I was not so lucky as to be contacted. Darn. Ah well.

I think the bulk of people getting off waitlist will be in mid may.
I was lucky enough to be contacted today. I wrote a rather clever letter last week which is what i think did it. that and a lot of luck.

Hold tight. Who know how many more spaces will open… It’s still only April 23d – and maybe some of the waiting listees offered spots won’t take them …

Defintely don’t give up hope. I know three kids who are in at Rice who this week revisted other faves (Stanford and two at UChicago). I’m sure they aren’t all three going to go to Rice. I bet other spots will open up.

I just got off the waitlist today! I didn’t send them any letter of interest or anything. The notification comes through emails. Good luck guys!:)

thiscantbe, just curious – did you apply for FA?

me too
got off the waitlist~~

youdon’tsay, no, i didn’t.

Hey, just a quick question to all of you guys that got off the waitlist. Did you email or mail your letters in, if you sent one? I just emailed mine today but I’m nervous that it will get lost among all the emails they get. it’s riceapps@rice.edu right?

Also, do you think it’s too late to get off the waiting list? I would’ve sent my letter in earlier but I kept putting it off until today, and I didn’t even think they’d notify people till after May 1st like the letter said :/

Son was accepted off waitlist Friday. Received call on Cell Phone (number not identified, so answer your phone). Web-site up-dated overnight.

He wrote e-mail right after being waitlisted saying he was still excited by Rice, and hoped to be accepted from waitlist. Gave some reasons for his desire to attend Rice, (lifestyle, academics). He never called admissions or sent another letter.

Good luck.

I sent a letter, but also emailed it to the admissions officers I have been in touch with.

proudparents, did you apply for FA? (Yes, I’m trying to establish a pattern)

filled in Fafsa forms, etc., but won’t qualify.

How many days does Rice give you to commit, once they accept you off the waitlist?

Just remember, some kids making decisions between Rice and other acceptances have a really tough decision on their hands… they may take up to the May 1 deadline before they decide. Good Luck!

Right. . . .

But anyway, how many days does Rice give to commit, once they accept you off the waitlist?

I would love to know that too.
Anyone?

i was given four.
