I was wondering: what are some tips for taking the SAT? How hard is the math section? And how do you guys prepare? Thx!
Personally, my advice would be to start off with a diagnostic test to see how well you’d do.
From there, it’s just practice practice and more practice.
First of all, it’d be best to check the CollegeBoard book to see what Math Chapters you have to review, but I can’t really tell you how “hard” the math section is because it depends on every person’s understanding of several math concepts. I personally got a 780 on the New SAT so I would say it is rather easy and only requires practice.
After you review the concepts, there are a lot of free CollegeBoard SAT Practice Tests (either 6 or 7) that you could try solving. I tried to solve a lot of practice tests, and that’s why I got a relatively high score on the Math Section. I got to the point where i felt like a lot of math exercises are repetitive throughout the tests, so you basically get used to them.
With the English section, the questions are usually similar as well, but it all depends on how much you understand the text and how accurately you analyze and guess.
My number one and only tip is to practice practice and practice till you’re sick of the questions. Worked for me.
@jinxorchestra Thanks! I’ll definitely practice a lot!
@RavenclawStudent - this entire forum is dedicated to SAT tips. Use it. Don’t be lazy. (There’s your first tip!)
@marvin100 Thanks for the advice. I’d figured as much, I merely wanted to hear some advice on studying. I’ve actually researched endlessly and have a complete stack of notes plus several note books and tons of websites marked. Just wondering if there’s something I passed over. Always work hard!
Do all the practise tests you can find, go over every mistake until you fully understand where you went wrong, don’t do timed practises straight away (it can be a bit off-putting when you can’t even finish your first practise, but it will come).
If you’re a true Ravenclaw, it shouldn’t be a problem
@greenstudent Thanks! Looks like practice tests is the main advice, so I’ll work some more on that.
Haha, you’re right!
