Well, I plan on transferring to a bunch of very competitive schools that I happen to love. MIT, Upenn, and Columbia happen to be the top three. I have test scores geared toward my intended major (chem/physics/math). I basically want to know the best way to increase my chances of acceptance at competitive schools despite the horribly low percentages. Oh and FYI, my stats are:

SAT I: Re-taking (Shooting for 2300+)

SAT II: 770 Chem, 800 Physics, 800 Math IIC

HS GPA: 3.3 UW

Taking a very difficult courseload freshman year (Equivalent to a schedule of an MIT freshman) and am striving for a 3.9+

You already have the numerical stats. So just make sure your essays are compelling and you have amazing recs. However, since those schools take so little each year (esp, MIT and columbia), there really isn't anything you could do (even with a flawless application...), but pray.

If you're transferring because you're not fond of where you are currently, be SURE to throw in one or two safeties where you would, in fact, be happy. I made this mistake last year when I attempted to transfer from Boston University; I was rejected from two of the three schools I applied to and I still believe that I was VERY lucky to have been accepted at the college where I'll be attending come autumn. I should have played it safer.
