I decided to transfer(from my community college) to UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago) next January and live on campus, and I'm majoring in marketing. I was just wondering if other people who attend, use to attend, or know of UIC if there are any tips/knowledge to help make my transition easier. Thanks!

This is general advice, but have the initiative to make friends, even if takes some work. My freshman orientation leader told me to accept any invitations (to reasonable and safe events, that is) at least during the first week, because you never know if you'll meet your best friend in one of those events.

thanks...any general advice is great too, or just about Chicago in general as well!

Do not wear flashy jewelry or iPod earphones on the El at night. Most coffeeshops in the Loop have good wireless connections and love overcaffeinated college youths.

why not wear flashy jewelry or ipod earphones? because it would make me look like I have money and an imaginary sign reading "rob me"....ahh that's scary!

bump bump.........

How often do you go to Chicago? I go almost every weekend (I'm actually from a neighboring suburb, contrary to what my profile location says). The El is very easy to navigate, so take advantage of it.

Go see the Adler Planetarium, it is pretty sweet.

Join, join, join. Clubs, dorm council, fraternities/sororities if that's your thing. That's how to find people who will get out and enjoy the city with you.
