What are things I should know about College in the City

Long story short, I'm transferring from a University that was essentially in the middle of no where to a College right in the heart of downtown Chicago! What are some of the things I should be aware of, prepare, know, and adjust to when it comes to attending school in the city.

I've been to the City countless amounts of times, but I wouldn't consider myself a "city" person.. if that makes sense.

Don’t carry cash.

Its better to live in the city than the suburbs/rural area.

Could I ask what school you are going to?

Depending on the school, there might be a lack of a campus. You may have classes a few blocks away from each other.

Just be aware of your surroundings, research safe areas and not so safe areas, and stay out of the not so safe areas at night and alone.

Don’t go out really late at night by yourself.

Research the area and find out which areas are safer than other places.

If you are using buses/public transportation, research (or ask word of mouth) which routes are safer. In Seattle, students have ‘blacklisted’ specific buses that are known for tons of muggings.

Be aware of your surroundings. Don’t plug into your iPod and be texting while crossing the street.

look out for riff-raff
