Does anyone out there know of any medical turnbacks from last summer who are trying basic again in June?

What are your stories and how are you feeling now that the next basic is within sight?

I'm not a turnback from 2012, but I was from 2011. Anyone who has any questions on the process and what to expect can ask me :) Just a thought.
This is a great site for support, by the way. I told just one peson my PO Box and got a lot of encouragement my second time round from people I've never met. It was really nice.

Did you have a gpa requirement for the classes you took during the year you were waiting to come back?

Its been a while since we have checked this site when our family went through the medical turnback process - twice. No GPA requirement. They do not even ask what you have done with yourself for the year. They will just check to make sure that you can clear medical. All the best, and we are all praying that second time is a charm.

This only applies if you get injured any time after R-day correct?

what is R-day? I know I-day but haven't heard that term before..

We call it "I-Day" or inprocessing day, which is the day the new basics start basic cadet training... R-Day is the same thing just USMA's version I am sure...

Silly grunt has strayed a bit far from home ;), and is that your real name Daniel Lee?

I am no grunt but I am silly.

and what if it is? haha

i figured.

Its unwise to put your real name over the internet, a bit dangerous...

Here's the rather bad part- you have to pay your way back here and get checked out at the Cadet Clinic on I-Day- after you get off the bus and the cadre have had a chance at you at the footprints. Unless something changes, the doctors here are the only ones who can clear you, and this can only be done on I-Day, for some reason.
There is no GPA requirement, as was said- you could practically be a bum for a year and assuming no arrests, DUIs, or parentage issues, and you pass the physical on I-Day, you have a guarenteed spot with 2013. Not that I'm implying you bummed around, but that's how it is.

I'm not a medical turnback but I am an Administration Turnback and will return on August 1st and start my four degree year all over. I left at the end of October and am currently at Florida State University and let me tell you, going back is definitely worth it.

FSU Falcon - what is an "Administrative Turnback"? Since you return 8/1 I assume that means you completed BCT with 2012 and now return to join 2013? Just curious.

I believe an administrative turnback is like a medical one- in fact, they're the same. The only difference is medical is actually "administrative turnback for medical reasons". Normally, though, cadets who take turnbacks outside of basic do so for personal reasons, like extrenuating circumstances.
FSU Falcon, you have to go BACK to four degree year? I guess that would make sense, but that sucks, in my opinion. We'll be rooting for you when you get back.

Miss you FSUFalcon- Once a REBEL =D

hey, im an administrative turnback and will be returning this year. I endured a stress fracture during basic and eventually it got so bad that I came home. There is alot I think about when knowing that I have only these few months left before I return. I wonder if it will be "easier" because I know what Im getting myself into or if it will be just the same. I definately feel like ill be more mature and more wise. Im now 20 and have spent one year in college then went to the Academy and was injured which put me another year behind. Ive tried to convince myself that its all part of a bigger plan and that maybe I wasn't ready. Ive done a pretty good job comforting myself if I must say so. One thing, however, I do worry about is if it will be mentally draining knowing that I would be done with all this had I not originally broken my leg. Any advice from anyone out there that has been in a similiar situation? What did you feel upon your return.

Also, when is I-day this year? I want to go ahead and purchase my plane ticket.

Im also confused on what to bring back. They said for me to bring what I was issued back with me when I return..but that almost seems impossible. There already is SO much you have to carry around with you that you pick up on I-day and to think that i have to load that on the bus scares me. When I was on the bus this summer a medical turnback was in the seat across from me and he got extra attention for all the bags he was carrying. I dont want this to happen to me. So i guess what im saying is should I just bring back my ABU's blues and service coat? And compress it into as little of a bag that I can find?

wmfalcon12: I-Day is June 25th this year... Good luck!

Bring what they tell you to bring. Yes, carrying everything will be unpleasant, but you'll already have most everything. You handled I-day before. You can do it again...and it will probably seem less stressful since you have an idea of what to expect.

WMFalcon12 - Hi, great to see you are giving it another shot. I remember you from earlier posts. Drop me a p.m. so I can hear about your progress...unless you want to post it in the open.

Son was a medical / administrative turnback last year.

Take back any documentation from your doctor "Releasing" you from medical care -- the Academy will also give you a physical the 1st day -- it's pass or fail.

Also take back your uniform NAMETAGS. That was one item my son was missing and not issued new. He had us mail those ASAP!

Good luck.
