I know the adcom on this thread stated that no one knew when decisions would be released, but that was last week. Have there been any updates since then?

nope. at least I don’t know.

I called and all they said was mid-December…and that was as specific as they got lol.

We’re not going to know until it happens, some time around December 15th. Until then we just have to sit tight.

According to some past experience, people got emails on Dec. 13th.
I think you should know by Dec. 15th.

^ I dunno. UChicago did get a 52% increase in admissions. Unless this huge uptick was completely (or at least partially) anticipated, I doubt they’d be able to announce decisions by Dec 15th.

^ do you mean 52% admissions or 52% applications?

Early applications, and it was 54% actually.

Ya I meant Early Applications :o

@Secret Asian Man, oh wow.

Regardless, I really do hope they’ll manage to have it out by 12/15. I’m suffering from an inability to focus on my regular applications until I get news!

This is what it says on College Board:

12/15 U Chicago: Deadline for college to notify students of early action

I’m assuming that means that we have to have our decisions BY the 15th.

That might be so but we’ve seen other colleges (unless I’m mistaken, Chicago included) that have missed these deadlines in the past.

Let’s hope they don’t miss the deadline!

@motion
There are many things wrong with the College Board’s website. I’m really surprised that an organization that wields so much power in the college process is so incomprehensibly unable to update their website statistics.

For all:
The UChicago College Admissions website says nothing about a Dec 15 deadline. It does, however, say that EA applicants will receive a decision by mid-December. I qualify mid-December as December 10-20. According to history, we should be expecting a decision BEFORE the 15th, however, those years they did not have almost 6,000 early applicants. No one knows what’s going on in the admissions office, so there’s no way to predict what’s going to happen. Just sit back and relax. When they’re ready to release, then they’re ready to release… there isn’t a thing you can do to change that. So just wait for that email, it could come this week or the next at the latest. No need to get to anxious… it’s only your future we’re talking about!

PS There is no such “deadline.” UofC is not responsible to you, they can do whatever they want. Remember, WE want to got THERE. We’re at their mercy.

Chicago’s notorious for not giving any notice at all about when decisions will come out, although mid-December does basically mean December 15th. Last year decisions came out on the 15th and that very morning there was a blog post to the effect of “no, this isn’t about early action decisions and I don’t know when they’ll be out.” I think the year before that decisions were out on about the 13th or so, and I’ve heard of them being out as early as the 10th.

But yeah, Chicago doesn’t do things nice and neatly like some other schools when it comes to decision notification. I kind of suspect you guys won’t see them until next Monday (the 14th) at least, but that is just a hunch of mine. I’m in no way whatsoever affiliated with admissions.

In my daughter’s year, where the dates lined up similarly to this year, I’m pretty certain that the Chicago EA results came out the 17th. It was definitely after the 15th, and a full week after some colleges’ ED notifications.

Yes, it was 12/13 for the class of '12, because S1 heard from Chicago before MIT (which used to always release on a Saturday). They don’t make a big production of it – you’ll get an email and go to the link (or this year, perhaps your account).

I wish Chicago would make a bigger deal out of it. My friends this weekend received notices from their ED/EA schools stating when decisions would come out. Many will be released this week. I’d rather know a week in advance than be surprised one evening.

@Hope Full: indeed I have similar thoughts. knowing a week ahead about release time is much better than a surprise, whatever the surprise will be. I may have a heart attack, though my family has no history in that sort of thing.

I see on the admissions website that the office will close at noon on 12/18. could that be the magic day?
