any writing summer programs???!???

Ok so this is not for me, but my sister is absolutely in love with writing; more specifically creative writing. She wants to be an author. But she asked me if i knew about any writing summer programs that she could look into. Me as a math person has no idea about this one. So I'm asking you guys; does anyone know of any good (creative)writing summer programs? She's a sophomore in HS and we live one the east coast in NYC if it helps.

THANKS :-D!!!!!

I know that summer@brown has a wide selection of writing courses. There is one specifically on creative writing. Also, you might want to look at the Columbia summer program. I'm not sure what their courses are like, but they most likely have something on writing.

UVA has a really good summer writing program.
But it's expensive. ):

On the bright side, you can apply for a scholarship.
If you receive a scholarship, it's free (and it looks better on college apps?)

The Iowa Young Writers' Studio's supposed to be one of the best, but the deadline's already passed. Maybe next year...?

There's also the Kenyon Young Writer's Program but, like Iowa, the application deadline was March 1. Perhaps something to think about for next year?

UVA is not expensive compared to other writing programs (excluding Governor's school, etc)

Carleton College has an excellent summer writing program.

The Carleton program is only for upperclassmen, I believe...and it's geared toward college-esque expository writing.

I would recommend Interlochen, but the deadline has--also--already passed. As crazy as it sounds, it'll be very difficult to find a program still accepting apps at this point. Maybe your sister would be better off spending the summer writing and building a portfolio to submit to creative writing programs next year. Deadlines are usually in February or March at the latest.

yea she did apply to some of the ones whose deadlines passed...i was just looking for more for her just in case
