S is graduating in May and I'm trying to find out a little about what to expect. S has no idea about any of it, and frankly, doesn't much care. However, I'm trying to help plan for 12 people coming from out of town to celebrate, so I could use some insight!

3 questions:
--Approximately how long does the total ceremony last? The Unified Ceremony is in the Superdome and starts at 9:30 but the undergraduate diplomas are awarded after that is over, all still in the Superdome. I even called the school and couldn't get an answer. Estimates on timing?

--Is the "Wave Goodbye"party on campus the night before graduation worth attending?
We have lots of family and S will have to work hard to scrounge up the extra tickets. If it's really great, then I'll put the pressure on :)

--The website mentions a crab-boil on Thursday that graduates can attend free and that family/friends can attend with a fee. Invites supposedly sent in April. Has that been offered previously and if so, was it a good thing to attend?

I appreciate any help I can get! Thanks.....

S1 graduated in 2007. To the best of my recollection, the unified ceremony lasted about an hour and a half. It was a wonderful ceremony and had a distinct NOLA flavor. I really enjoyed it. We only stayed for that as he received his business diploma later in the day at the Fogelman arena.

The Wave Goodbye party on campus was also very nice. There was music and local food and it was a lovely evening to sit outside on the academic quad and visit with families and friends. We had made dinner reservations for Friday night - but we ate so much at the Wave Goodbye party that we just went out late for snacks and desserts.

I don't remember about the Thursday festivities but we didn't arrive until Friday anyway.

Enjoy the weekend - in my experience it was lovely and a wonderful memory.

Thanks altmom and jym. (I'll do the PM as you've suggested).
It sounds like things are slightly different this year as the Business School is now in the Superdome for diplomas (undergrad) and perhaps the crab-boil is new??
