Anybody doing Intel?

Hi fellow CCers!!! :) I was wondering, who is starting research for Intel for this upcoming year? Let's dedicate this thread to people with Intel questions and discussing what's going on.

I'll start with a question:

Do I have to team up with a professor to do research for an engineering project, or can I try to fly solo. I'll probably need help from a mechanical engineer, but my prospective project is a little different, as I'm trying to design an automotive engine that runs on water, wind, and solar. Will this project fly at this competition, or should I just enter a different competition?

Good luck to everybody entering the competition! :)

Bump…nobody is comtemplating Intel? I thought that we could disuss the upcoming year, how busy we will be, or w/e.

You have 555 posts. One-hundred and eleven more and you’d be evil.

That’s my insightful contribution for the day.

^Awesome, that would be a killer project for Intel. Figure out how many more posts people need to be evil, you think that there’s a univrsal constant involved here or no :P?

Seriously, anybody thinking about doing this, Siemens, or other competitions? I thought that CC was full of people who did those type of things. :D

I’m thinking about doing it. I don’t know if I’ll have the time to dedicate though.

I’m already evil. MUAHAHAHAHAHA.

I totally scared you, right?

I’m doing ISEF this year and did an Engineering project for the past two years.
Most of mine were independently researched with construction/concept help from professors.

Your idea sounds interesting, but not sure about the feasibility, especially in such a short amount of time.

I’m thinking about doing Siemens (if I can put together a project on time), and ISEF this year, for the first time. I work with a professor on sort of an alternative energy/carbon sequestration project. Having a professor really helps, and I get to research my own little niche while he just made sure I knew how to run the lab and I didn’t blow anything up…but I’m sure that they will look upon independently done projects favorably :)

I did Siemens last year and I am doing Intel this year.

I had/have a mentor for both competitions. However, if you can complete a successful project on your own without a mentor, that would look good.

@tsubomi1993: Yeah, that’s pretty funny! What does this chemcial do? BAM!! :P

@Dagol: Yeah, there’s no good local professors (I’ve checked), but my chemistry teacher could help me tinker with stuff. He’s the kind of person who would somewhat know how to help me make a small-scale model.

@Jayay90: Well, I actually have drawn out how it would work (contrived idea about 1.5 years ago), now I would need to perfect it, explain how it would work in a car, and maybe plans on mass production. Does that sound like it would fit in with the ISEF mold?

@WantsBrown: Totally understand, this is such a demanding consumption of time, but best wishes! I also would like to go to Brown (I’m guessing that’s how you fabricated your name) lol :P.

@PLattsburghLoser: Yeah, I’m so scared, I waited over 7 hours to post again ;P. Seriously, will schools like an evil genius? I don’t know, but I won this battle. I quote the epic Stephen T. Colbert: “I accept your apology.” ;)
