I finally heard back from A&M yesterday and I got waitlisted.

1390/2020 SAT
30 ACT
83 average at strong, well recognized private school in ft worth, TX
Eagle scout, tons of leadership, extracurriculars, work experience, overall really strong resume

Everybody had been telling me that short of a catastrophe I should count on an acceptance letter.

Now almost everybody at my school has heard back. No new acceptances (five from earlier in the year, but they are planning on attending Ivy Leagus) and about 15 wait listed. Most of which are in similar positions as me but with a few disparities, we even have some national merit finalists that are on the wait list.

I was also waitlisted. I heard people yesterday had all received a waitlist option, and that in April, everyone else might receive rejections.

At my school, all 40 national finalists got into A&M, but 30 of them were top 10% anyway, and they all chose some Ivy League. The other 10 got in though…but perhaps it’s other factors that helped them?

I wish everyone the best of luck. If you REALLY want to go to A&M, I suggest keeping in touch with admissions counselor.

o i thought i was the only one who couldnt find an email address , but i live in Arlington so i may go talk with him/her. their only about 5-10 minutes away from me

Howdy! I am currently a Texas A&M grad. student (also got my undergrad. from A&M), and I’m trying to help my brother through this whole “waitlist” process! I noticed you mentioned people should keep in touch with an admissions counselor… where do we find that information? He is living in El Paso, so any info would help! Thank you!

You should have at least gotten in. Don’t know why you didn’t. A couple of my friends got in off the waitlist last year with stats a couple notches below yours…

AggieSister - Howdy! Well, I have been keeping in touch with my admissions counselor since Summer. Since it’s kind of too late for your brother to have a long connection with a counselor, I would suggest to set up a meeting to meet a counselor at a Prospective Student Center (PSC). I don’t think there is one in El Paso…but here’s the link to a list of PSCs [Prospective Student Centers](Admissions - Connect with an Advisor | Admissions)

After that, e-mail every now and then to show you are interested. Tell him to ask questions about his application and such. Make sure not to call/e-mail EVERY day, but not just once either. If you never ever talk to an admissions counselor and suddenly you are asking for an appeal from them, I don’t think that would make them very happy :/

My son was also offered the waitlist/Blinn team etc. option. We were shocked and felt he would be a “shoe in” on the review admission because he missed automatic admission by such a small margin (both ways of auto admission).
He has a 3.89 GPA and had a 620 Math/540 Critical Reading on the SAT. His class ranking puts him at 12.4 percentile. He is involved in sports teams, PALS etc. We were shocked and hope his chances of getting in off of the waitlist are good. He accepted the BlinnTeam and Galveston options, but hope we don’t have to utilize those.
He has been told he should have chosen a different major, is that right? He chose Business-unspecified and Economics as a second choice. We just knew he would get in on the review option and now that that did not happened, I’m worried!!! Should he visit one of the perspective student centers and speak to one of the advisors there or just leave well enough alone?

whatrchances, it certainly can’t hurt to be in contact with an admissions advisor. Have you also asked if there is the possibility of adding General Studies as another major option? This might give your son more wiggle room to get in.

Yeah, I have read about the whole general studies major. Do you think that would help him? We didn’t know if he would look too indecisive if he was changing things up. Guess we will check into that . . .
