D13 is working on her OU application. There is a section with 7 personal questions (i.e., how will you contribute to the diversity of OU, academic challenges, career goals/aspirations, etc.) Does anyone know if these should be short answers or longer, essay-like answers? She has spent many hours today working on these!

For the question on if she has had academic challenges and how has she handled them, she doesn't really know what to say. Truth is, she really hasn't had any issues and has a great GPA. Would it be ok for her to talk about her challenge has been learning to manage her time on her own since she has been at a boarding school since 9th grade and being able to balance her academics, art, and service?

My D13 just finished the Oklahoma application. She went with the short answer option.

Regarding the “academic challenge” question, my D also has a very high GPA and hasn’t had what I would consider any severe challenges. I had also suggested the topic of time management in the context of a challenging curriculum and time-consuming EC’s. However, she had already decided to write about an AP class in which it became apparent that the teacher wasn’t covering the AP material so she had to take the incentive to learn a lot of it on her own. I think either works.

Is your D also applying to the Honors College? The first essay option on that app (about an activity you are passion about) sounds very similar to a question on the regular app but D doesn’t like any of the other questions. I guess she will just expand it on the Honors App.

Have you visited OU? We are headed to Norman for a campus visit on Friday. My D is interested in the marching band, so she in participating in Band Day at a home football game on Saturday. She isn’t a sports fan at all so this should be interesting.

She will apply to the Honors College. We haven’t gotten that far yet. Just want her to get the regular app submitted as she auditions for the ballet program 5 weeks from today. Yikes! We will have our first visit to Norman then.

Good luck to your D on her audition! My D probably isn’t going to get around to the Honors App yet for awhile either. I will post our impressions of the campus. Hopefully it will cool down a little before Friday.

We just got home from Norman. D was very impressed on many fronts. She had wonderful meetings with professors in the Honors College and Computer Science and an Associate Dean of Engineering, as well as lunch with several honors students. It is a beautiful, very well-maintained campus with numerous fountains, gardens, outdoor benches etc. Lots of shade too, which we definitely noticed since it got to 104 that day! Students seem very happy to be there with a strong sense of belonging. Lots of good comments about professors and academics. Didn’t hurt that the computer science building is brand new and seems to be very well-designed and high tech. Best cafeteria we’ve experienced yet. Nice area of shops and local restaurants on the north side of campus. OU is now tied for #1 on her list. I think she is going to have a tough time making a decision next spring.

This is going to sound silly but I’m from New York and it’s hard to find information on OU without the chance to go there. Can anyone provide me information that’s not from the website?

D submitted her app on 9/9 and transcripts were mailed on 9/20. It’s still showing no transcripts received. How long should I wait before calling? We will be at the school on Monday and Tuesday for D’s ballet audition and tour. Maybe we should just visit admissions on when we are there? And congrats STEMfamily on your D’s acceptance!

I don’t remember exactly, but it seems like it was about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks before the transcript showed as received.

And good luck to your D on the audition next week! We heard more than once during our tour how highly regarded the dance program is at OU. (Don’t remember if it was specifically ballet.)

D fell in love with OU when we went last week for her audition. Found out when we got home she was accepted academically, now just waiting to hear from the audition! Fingers crossed please!
