Thinking of self studying APs. Is it possible ? From what I know, 3-4 subjects are REALLY easy. Anyone ?

I self studied 4 ap’s last year. And trust me, they are NOT really easy. If you’re a CBSE student, you’ve still got to work quite a bit. You’ll need a whole month of prep to do well on them.

I was in Cbse till 10th. I have 1 and a half months but I won’t have any other important work then. I’ll be done with my boards. You mean one month per AP ? If I’m not wrong they are only offered in may right ?

Well I also am thinking of self preparing for the APs. I just looked at a sample test for physics, but it seemed not so difficult. Looked to me as if I prepared well for the boards, it would be enough. But I am only talking about physics.

Hey and by the way which APs are you planning to take?
I have not decided but if appear for the APs, it would be one in physics, chemistry and mathematics each.

One month of serious prep is required to do well on 3-4 AP’s exams. @Make boy, you’re planning to take the AP’s after your boards and then take a GAP year?

No I do not really plan to take a gap. I am taking the APs because some colleges give course credit for that.

I self-studied for my APs. I took Physics C : Mechanics, Physics C : E&M, Chemistry, Calculus BC and Computer Science A and a 5 on all of them. I’m a CBSE student currently in 12th. Took them in May 2012. In my opinion, the APs test fairly trivial stuff.

@anunay how much time did it take for you study ?

Ap physics b-easy

whats an AP??? Sorry for my goofiness

@quiverfox AP are advanced placement exams. They are used for admission decisions and to award course credits.

Hey guys by the way is there an AP exam in computer science which tests C++ instead of Java?

Bbbbbummmmppppp

I self studied Calc BC, Physics C (both) and Chemistry and ended up with 5’s in all.

All I did was get hold of the Barron’s guide for all these subjects and skim through it and go over parts I didn’t know, which wasn’t much. A lot of it is covered in CBSE/ICSE. I thought the examinations weren’t too hard. They were a little tricky if you’re the kind who goes in for a 100%, but since ~60% is the cut off for a 5, I didn’t face too much trouble.

On a side note, I would definitely recommend taking the APs if you can. It really boosts your application because it gives the adcoms a more convenient way to judge your academic potential.

60% cutoff for a 5 :o And how much time did it take you to study ?

I studied for about a month. The 60% cutoff thing is only true for ‘hard’ APs like Physics C : E&M. The cutoff for a 5 for easier ones like Chemistry is much higher.

How did you prepare ? Only baron is enough ?

If you have a firm grasp of your board’s class 12 Science and/or are “preparing for the IIT”, then you should be fine with one months worth of review from the Barron’s books and a few practice tests.

I used The Princeton Review.
