Anybody majoring outside of sciences/eng??

Even though I applied as a human biology major, Im most likely going to switch to something in the humanities or social sciences. Perhaps latin american studies.

Ps Congrats to anyone who got in. I was UCSD in the ERC dorms for a month this past summer cus of Cosmos. Beautiful campus, great weather, wonderful experience. Im goin to have a hard time deciding since i got into UCLA also :(

I'm majoring in Psychology [Marshall].

Yeh, im thinking latin american studies with perhaps a minor in poli sci. Not sure yet.

Anyone else choose warren college?

Political Science-International Relations (Marshall)

Admitted for Bio too, but I'm switching out to Econ :]

Poli Sci at Warren.

Not sure if I like the idea of staying in SD though. Nothing wrong with it, in fact I love it here, but it's college you know?

Does cognitive science count as a non-science?

Philosophy at Muir

Double in Joint Math/Econ and Psych (Honors BS/MA program); minors in CogSci and Spanish.

subtle_overload, CogSci is considered a social science.

@ Oyama: intellectually I know it's a social science but there are days it seems like a hardcore science after looking all day at that neuroanatomy book. And then there's the fact that you can get a Bachelor of Science out of it.

What does it mean to be a science anyways? Isn't a social science still technically a science?

I'm so confused @_@

Science connotes physical/natural science

Science is technically any field that determines causal relationships using scientific method (controlling for IV and deducing results from effect on DV).

And the distinction between BA/BS doesn't have a concrete difference anymore. It only has a meaning if a dept offers both a BA/BS, and the BS normally either implies there's more requirements or that there's some thesis/research involved.

I'm a Cog Sci major from Warren.

Technically CogSci is a 'social science' but it has a programming / computer (science) aspect along with a psychology (social science) aspect to it.

If you are in warren and have to complete Points of Concentrations (our GE's) then cog sci is listed as a science and you take social science and humanities GE's

I'm a poli sci, considering double majoring in phil also depending on how much I like it.

Poli sci is actually a relatively popular major here, and the program is highly ranked too.

Quick little sidenote:

UCSD is the first school to ever have a Cog Sci department.

That is all.

UCSD and MIT are the top schools for Cog Sci

I'm an international relations major and got into ERC. Still considering my final decision though.

I've always viewed the difference between science versus everything else as this:
