Do you know anyone who left his/her UC campus "unsatisfactory", attend a CC, and admitted to a different UC campus?

I know all the grades you earned after your high school graduation in any institution will remain for life. But do they consider in extenuation of circumstances or is it straight up your UC grade + CC grade?
so even though you get 3.7 IGETC GPA, your 1.0 UC GPA will eliminate your hope?

I am confused because counselors gave me slightly different answers.

I am so motivated now and hope my past(mistakes and inevitable circumstances) will not block me.

I attended a UC for 6 semesters and ended up dismissed with a 1.3ish GPA. Now I am attending a CC and really want to transfer later.
I currently have a 3.3ish GPA from 4 classes in the CC now.

it wasnt at a UC, but didnt do well at a previous Univ and ended up on probation...with around a 1.85 GPA...took my couple yrs to get it into a decent range of overall 2.5 GPA jsut to transfer back into a good university... basically had to pull A's for the majority of my grades..so you'd probably have to do the same, but your gpa is much lower to get back into a UC or another good school...probably have to get it up in the 2.o range to get into one of the lower CSU's...not sure, how admissions handle it, but for the my last 30+ units i had around a 3.7 gpa..not sure if they took into consideration my improvement and was willing to accept me over that

Sometimes, it helps to know why someone didn't do so well. What was your major? It's not just to uncommon for engineering majors to drop out. Was that your case or was it something else?

Since you have a 1.3 UC GPA over 6 semesters (I assume you were at Cal, it's an important assumption since it does improve your chances), you have just about zero hope of getting into any UC for undergrad since you need a UC GPA of 2.0 to graduate from a UC. You dug yourself a very deep hole and it's nearly impossible to climb out. You can get 60 units of 4.0 GPA at a CC and it will help for getting into CSU but it will do no good for UC. Figure out how many units of straight A's at UC schools it would take to raise your UC GPA to 2.0.

UC Berkeley Extension now allows concurrent enrollment courses to have grade points transferred to your UCB transcript and UC GPA so you can rack up a lot of units in a year or two along with UC summer sessions to raise your UC GPA to 2.0 even though you are dismissed from Cal.

Your CC GPA of 3.3 is still low and it indicates you are picking the wrong courses, the wrong major, or you're simply not motivated enough to pull this off. If you are an engineering student and still trying for engineering, consider giving it up and change your major. I wouldn't try the Extension thing until you can get 4.0 GPA at CC for a semester or two.

So even if I transfer to a UC(after they looked at my gpa's of UC and CC),
only my former UC grades will be applied to determine my GPA in the new UC? Will my CC gpa just be poweless whether it help me getting in there or not?
How about in CSU?

what will be the "safe" gpa I need to get into a CSU as one of the non impacted majors?

hmm... i've read in some other posts thatyou can actually request to have your records expunged... not sure if it applies. Ask your counselors about it. What UC did you attend?

You were there for 6 semesters before you were dismissed? That means you're now in your senior or junior year correct? So taking CC courses is going to basically help in damage control to your lower divs. if you can get enough of those low grades replaced I think you could get into a CSU, but not much chance at a UC. I also did not think getting records expunged was a option.

It's officially known as Academic Bankruptcy. You file a claim to the dean who has to approve it with the board. When that happens, you start over as a freshman with 0 credits and a brand new GPA.

so what reasons would be acceptable? i mean, for instance, could "i had heavy heavy depression" count as an acceptable reason? or "i had family issues?"

Why should any UC admit you if your UC GPA is so far from the UC GPA of 2.00 needed to graduate? UCR is on the quarter system so you are two years in the hole instead of three. Still, I think you can forget UC unless you are going to spend the next few summers hanging out at UC summer sessions scoring straight As.

At CSU, you still need a 2.0 overall but at least your CC grades will count. Still, your deficit is very deep and this process will be much faster if you get something closer to 4.0 instead of 3.3. CSU has policies on "academic renewal" where you can disregard 2 semesters/3 quarters of work if you need it to graduate (e.g. ignore those terms when calculating for cumulative GPA) but one of the requirements is that five years must have elapsed from the terms to be disregarded. Look in the CSU catalog for the CSU you want to go to.

Finally, I think you need to do everything to protect your GPA from here on out. Make sure you check every professor through ratemyprofessors.com and drop courses if you are going to get more than two Bs per term. For every D you got in the past, you need a B. For every F, you need an A. This is the minimum just to get to 2.0.
