anyone accepted/rejected to TCNJ?

i dont know much about the honors program. all i got was a small letter that said something along the lines of 'u qualify for this thing because u have nice stats, here's an application'

yea i got that honors application letter too but no scholarship yet. The weird thing is that two of my friends at my school got scholarships but i didnt get it yet (even though I have the same exact rank and same sat score range as both of them). My guidance counselor said she sent all our ranks out at the same time so hopefully its not a big deal (I applied to the med program so maybe my app was diverted and thats causing the delay).

i haven't got the honors letter, but i got a full scholarship, so maybe it just hasn't come yet.

this is making me think that maybe the honors program is for people who didn't get scholarships but who are smart regardless? tho the basis for selection on that would be sort of interesting.. from reading past posts, foodisgood and i don't share much in common....

I received both, a scholarship offer in my acceptance letter and then a letter about an Honors Program a couple of weeks later. It seems like we are all in a different situation here :)

chemaddict17:
My son received a scholarship (after the admittance letter) and an invitation to the honors program. I am assuming it is based strictly on stats. As is the scholarship, as far as I can determine: if you feel you qualify for money which has not as yet been mentioned, I urge you to call admissions and question them as to the situation. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. (Do I sound like a mother?)

I had to speak to someone at the college (they are very nice, by the way) before my son's scholarship was put in writing and mailed to us.

chemaddict, i believe that they are just delaying our scholarships because of paperwork delays. I don't think there is much to worry about. However, i'm calling them tomorrow to sort this thing out and you should too. The scholarship is guaranteed based on class rank and sat score so there is no if ands or buts. By the way, I have a 1520 sat and i'm in the top 5% so there is no way that I would not recieve the full ride and room board scholarship. The honors program has nothing to do with it.

ok, so maybe it doesn't. that's what happens when u don't have much data to back up ur claims.. it's called falsely applied inductive reasoning (i've taken too much TOK... time to stop that)

but anyway. i have the 1500 with the top 5%, but when i called, they said that i didn't qualify.. didn't get a reason out of the person i was talking to..

thats completely bogus and you should call back and fight it. I know of people with much worse stats than us who have gotten scholarships. i honestly cant figure why they would not give me the scholarship considering that they sent my name to umdnj and gave me a good rec for the med program.

By the way, make sure you speak with the person incharge of the scholarships and not some secretary because they often have no idea whats going on and will give you wrong info.

By the way, this is from TCNJ's website

"They are offered to both in-state and out-of-state students based upon academic performance as measured by the SAT and a student's class rank and will automatically be granted to you when you are admitted. They are renewable for three additional years."

http://www.tcnj.edu/~admiss/apply/scholarships.html

It says that you are automatically granted the scholarship so there is no reason that we should not get it.

are merit scholarships open to internationals? and what if my school doesn't rank.. as a guide i go to the top school in my country, with the students being admitted based on GCE O Level results and ECs. technically speaking, everyone in my school is the top 3-5% of the country.

i give up... unfortunately, this scholarship isn't really worth much, because even given it, i probably won't go to TCNJ. if they don't give me money, they make my college decision all that much easier.

as for internationals... i guess you would qualify for out of state? but i don't know.. us colleges aren't mostly crazy about giving aid to internationals.

I got an invitation to there honors program too, working on the essay right now. Does anyone no how tough it is to get into. Im a little scared, though Im the valedictorian of my class, I completly bombed my sats 1280/1890.
I got a scholarship too, it wasn't much, 5k but hell its still 5k less than 18k, so its cool. I wish they didn't bunch up the bloustein's scholar with the outstanding student's recruit program. Plus it would be sweet if they gave Bloustein scholars full tuition like Montclair State.

Can anyone comment on TCNJ's prelaw department and Comp Scie department.

BTW any one attending the accepted students day on April 2nd.

What does it take to be invited into the honors program?

Socksrule, here's something from TCNJ Honors Program website that will answer your question:
"Q: Who is eligible for the Honors program?
The Honors program is open to entering freshmen as well as currently enrolled students. Minimum requirements for entering freshmen are either a combined SAT score of 1350 or graduation in the top five percent of the high school class. Current students need a minimum 3.4 average. "

Insane_Membrane, yes! I'm definitely going to be there on April 2nd!:)

thanks for the info Tally!

Sweet, did anyone else find that schedule thing confusing for the accpeted students day.

Hmm so looks like I have no chance in the honors program, aww.

Has anyone else been following the story of the missing TCNJ student? It's so sad :( TCNJ is my first choice and I have to admit that this recent event has somewhat freaked me out. I'm still pretty confident that I'll enroll next year, but I can't help but feel a little scared... How do you guys feel about going there next year?

I'm with you, Tally. My son will be applying next year but I am just sick about this student. Any new developments today?

I think all of NJ is watching this story, which is just unbelievable. What if other students are somehow involved?
How did John get in that chute? Why?

I am glued to the TV/ Radio, although missed events today, trying to keep updated.

An ironic twist, our S was waitlisted to TCNJ yesterday, which is fine by us.
He is accepted to Notre Dame and Bucknell.....

Does anyone have any inside info on this story?
