My gpa is only 3.1 if I exlude my freshmen year.(Fresh 3.7) I totally sucked in my sophomore year(2.7) so this is what making me a low gpa. This is not a Michigan recalculated gpa so if I recaculate, it should go up some. (I can remove 1 C- !!! <_< and 1~2 Bs)
I have excellent test scores,ECs..etc
I feel very confident except for my gpa.
Any hopes for me???????????

yes there is hope chill out

Did you apply this year, and are you in-stats/oos?

im in the same boat after being deferred, 31 act, 3.15 gpa, 5 AP's.

i got in with a 3.1 gpa, 22hundered something SATs..and i also got into cornell, upenn (wharton btw) carnegie mellon and wash u st louis..that was 2 years ago

Chances of acceptance is low, but I wouldn't completely rule it out.

anyone got accepted with low ACT/SAT? i think colleges care more about scores than GPA...sigh

^^^I know several people with 26/27 ACT and a few even lower who have been accepted to Michigan (in-state). I think Michigan weighs GPA more heavily.

I know two people who got in with a 1900 SAT, both OOS.

i got in with a about a 3.4 um gpa about a month ago, but was deferred initially. Howver, i had very good grades junior and my fall semester of senior year, it was my sophmore year that killed me. I also had high test scores. Basically, they just wanted to see if I could keep up my junior year grades (3.8), so when they got my fall semester grades of this year, they understood that sophmore year was a fluke, and let me in within a week or two of recieving the fall transcript.

anyone wanna chance me...31 act, 3.15 gpa MI-GPA, 5 AP's. fall grades are all B's in 4 ap and 1 regular class (so 3.0 mich gpa for fall), good recs, essays and decent extracurriculars.

If you are fortunate enough to attend one of the nation's top 10 private boarding schools (like the Phillips and Deerfield Academies, St Paul, Lawrenceville, St Albans, Hotchkiss, Collegiate, Choat, Taft etc...), where a 3.0 GPA is equivallent to a 4.0 at most other schools and 3.5 students are admitted into HYPSM, a sub 3.5 GPA would probably get you into Michigan. That's seems to be the case with Bearcats.

However, for students who attend any other schools, even highly regarded public or private high schools, a sub 3.5 unweighed GPA will probably not cut it. However, one never knows.

don't completely freak out. this is not something I'm proud of, but i got in with a 24 act... I'll say that again.. 24.. but my GPA is 3.9 and my resume looks close to awesome, with extracurricular and achievements and what not. I also come from a hard walk of life.. (I had cancer, my father is living with a fatal disease). I also didn't take two years of language which is highly not recommended by them. Just remember Michigan isn't the devil. They do allow exceptions like me.... rare, but it happens. So just hang in there.

a woman came from umich came to my school to talk about admissions and she said that they would rather see a lower ACT/SAT and high gpa than a high test score and low gpa. Because if you have a high test score and low gpa then it looks like your smart and just dont try in school but if you have high grads and low scores it just looks like you are not a great test taker but you work hard in school and it is more important to them to have students that will work hard

I transferred with a 3.4 college gpa and a 2.8 high school gpa.

That's correct class2009. Michigan de-emphasizes standardized test scores. Of course, you cannot bomb the SAT/ACT (get less than an 1800/27) and expect to get in, but Michigan would rather accept a 4.0 student with an 1800/27 SAT/ACT than a 3.5 student with a 2300/34 SAT/ACT. Many here will tell us about how they got into Michigan with a 3.3 GPA or with a 24 on the ACT, but in reality, for every such case, there are many, many more that are rejected.

I know one guy who got in with a 3.0, but he was really smart and just lazy (and in-state).

Also, in the viewbook I received, I believe it inferred that Michigan requires a B average.

yes. i've heard that michigan values a high GPA over awesome test scores. I, for example, got into Coe with a 25 ACT and 3.7 cumulative(4.0 7th semester). I was deferred initially, but eventually got in a week ago. Theres still a decent chance of getting in if you have a good GPA.

i came across an old link of the points that michigan assign for admission purpose. it was a system that they used a very long time ago...late 90's. and the most points that were awarded was for GPA, then URM...but i think the supreme court case has changed that. almost no difference for standarized test schools and difficulty of classes. quite interesting to see, and while they don't use that system anymore, i believe that their process of picking students taht are up to standard, are still very similar.

i had like a 3.3-4 with a 2160 on the SAT and got in to LSA as a freshman out of state
