Lets celebrate together! We are truly going to be emptying out our parents pockets.

this is the program i really wanted to do- but got waitlisted at tufts.. maybe with a little brown nosing and strings pulled, i may see you next year... but congrats, you should feel incredible!

I'm a junior now and have been thinking about this program. Could you share what made you want to apply/attend? My interests are Metal and Jewelry Arts (SMFA) and Japanese (Tufts). What about the program appeals to you the most? My dad seems incredibly interested, but I can't seem to get excited about it like I am with some other schools. We haven't had a chance to visit yet.

well basically, i was considering going to Art school, but my parents didn't really like the idea of this, and also I wanted the sort of total college experience with a sense of community/resident life, and in Art School, most people would be too busily involved in their artwork to really focus on something else. So, an admissions representative of SMFA introduced me to the combined degree, and said that it would allow me to focus equally on art, as well as other academic subjects. Because I wasn't JUST interested in Art, and yet I also didn't want to compromise it by just taking art courses in uni (ie drawing 101, etc) ,with the Combined Degree, I can earn a BFA and a BA in whatever subject I want!

I guess what I really liked, was the balance in it, and even though its five years, I feel like I would have more freedom, and be able to go into more depth with the subjects that I'm interested in.

For SMFA, I'm planning to do either painting/drawing or photography and possibly some instillation, but I think for the first year, I'll just try a bunch of courses and see which sticks! For Tufts, I'm thinking child education, or maybe IR, not sure - i applied undecided!

I think prob the best thing about being in the CD (I'm just kinda guessing here) would be able to be part of two different kind of communities - where its not just artsy people, but also engineering or pre-med students etc. And you can go sort of back and forth between campuses to find what you're interested in, and really pursue your passions (even if they've got nothing to do with each other!)
