Accepted witih Presidential Scholarship. 3.72 GPA, 1840 SAT, 27 ACT, multisport varsity athlete, strong community service, very strong in math. He is very excited - now has tough decision to make.

congrats to your S Indy!!!

Congrats Indy!! What other schools is deciding on? Stats just about identical to my D, didn’t get scholarship :(. We did appeal it though, so hopefully that will come through for us.

anyone know if mid term report is required to be sent by those who were already accepted EA?

yes i believe a midterm report as well as end of year report which comes out at the end of the year are all required to be sent, but im pretty sure the school will take care fo that for you…just ask to be sure :)

Thanks all. Other schools he is considering are University of Portland, Santa Clara and Gonzaga. Westie, good look appealing the scholarship for your daughter!

Westie: My d appealed a merit scholarship a couple years ago to a private CA school (she received some money but about half the amount of the other schools she applied to), and she was thrilled when the school increased her scholarship to make it more competitive with the other schools she was considering. She did have to wait a few months - I am guessing because they needed to find out who was accepting and who wasn’t to see how much money would be freed up - but the wait was worth it to her (especially since she gambled and committed to the school before she knew if her merit aid would be increased or not). So hopefully your daughter will have similar luck!

does anyone feel like there is a very high chance they will go to stonehill? did anyone actually choose on stonehill yet?

If you asked that question a few months ago I would have said that D would definitely be going there if accepted, now not so sure. We are still waiting on a few more decisions and there are a couple of schools I think she would choose over Stonehill if admitted, Fordham and Northeastern to be exact. Also there has been a sudden interest in Siena because they offered her a nice scholarship and an invitation to apply to the honors program, so we will see. How about you Tab, where are you leaning towards at this point?

I think my s might be leaning toward Stonehill but not 100% sure yet.

good to hear indy
westie - i see those are some great schools your D is looking at. as for me, i really loved stonehill when i visited the campus and out of the 4 schools i looked at (scranton, stonehill, holy cross, and fordham), i liked stonehill’s feel and atmosphere the best. it just felt…right. i’m definitely not 100% sure i want to go there yet as i got into fordham and scranton and am still waiting on a few others. i currently have a sibling at holy cross, which is kinda high on my list with stonehill. I am leaning toward a degree in business which i know stonehill just got accredited for and holy cross does not really offer it. i do have some pressure from my fam/sibling as i feel like they kinda want me to go to holy cross since it is such a great school and my bro loves it there. i spoke with some teachers at school, some who said stonehill was a great school and that i would do well there, and others that said i should reach further. my counselor, a graduate from fordham, i could feel was pushing me towards fordham since it does have a great business program and alumni network. i feel like stonehill was the best feel while the other schools were nice. however, i didn’t get the same feel at the other schools that i got at stonehill. while holy cross is probably the most prestigious of all the colleges i applied to, i was not a big fan of the feel there. don’t get me wrong, it is a beautiful campus, but it just felt like a cut-throat environment to me. i don’t know why…but it was not as comforting as stonehill. anyway, i haven’t made my decision yet as i am still waiting to here back from some schools but i can only hope i’ll make the right one!
thanks! good luck to all who are taking mid terms this week!

My son has Stonehill near the top of his list, but they didn’t offer any merit aid which was disappointing. We checked the box that we were not applying for need based aid, so an acceptance without merit aid is basically a denial when other colleges have already awarded generous merit aid. I was told that my son just missed the cut for merit aid, but his file will be reviewed again with regular admission applicants. That’s great, but the reason he applied early to all the schools he did, was to get decisions early and be able to make a decision earlier rather than later.

There were some posts on this thread earlier complaining about some of the communications they had with Stonehill in the past. I just wanted to say that our experience throughout this process has been the complete opposite - whether it was questions to admissions, financial aid, professors, or the athletic department, Stonehill has always responded literally within 24 hours via phone or email. All responses have been very courteous, cordial and professional, and even went above and beyond answering any questions or concerns we had. We obviously dealt with different people in different parts of the university, who also seemed to communicate well between departments. I am happy to say we have had no negative experiences in regard to communications to date, and I would personally rate them very highly in this category. I am sorry for those that maybe had a different experience, but I would hate to see that dissuade someone else, since hopefully they will have the same positive results we have had.

Indy - Stonehill has done a very good job putting itself out there. I did send one email regarding whether something was received and they never responded but it was never a big deal because i got in anyway. while i think communication is important in a school, i don’t think it would be enough to turn me away completely against it. Throughout the college process, i have come to realize that just about every single school has problems with its administration. Literally, every board or forum i’ve looked on about a school, there is someone complaining that the admin at a college stinks, and this might be the case in a lot of places as it may just be a very common problem. that being said, all colleges everywhere, from the local community college to harvard are going to have their problems. additionally, i don’t know where you live but there are different admission counselor for each region and state. me being from ny, there are probably a lot of people coming from my and maybe the ny admission counselor just received too many emails at once. maybe if someone was from an area where they receive less applicants, they would be able to answer the email earlier. anyhow, good luck with your decisions!
