I was wondering if anyone has been admitted into UT Austin without being int the top 10%.
If so, what were the other factors that had a play in your situation?
Thanks!

Not sure what you are talking about, because top 10% doesn’t even guarantee auto-admission to UT, its only top 7%.
If you aren’t top 7%, you need really good test scores, especially for more competitive majors (business, architecture, engineering, etc.), along with good EC’s.
Because UT does not take into consideration the competitiveness of a school or your GPA, you can count those out.
This is one of the few times I actually lol’ed on college confidential. Are you being serious? Freshman GPA doesn’t mean you are screwed for life.
When I was a freshman, my class rank was about 60%. I got that down to 20% halfway through junior year, and I predict my final 3 year total class rank will be around 15%.
The fact that you didn’t get to 10% in freshman year doesn’t mean its over for you.
I was in the top 7%, but a lot of my friends who weren’t got accepted. They were really involved in extracurriculars and held leadership positions in their organizations. For example, one of them was debate captain, NHS president, and was also really involved in theatre.
Also, top 7% doesn’t guarantee admission to the school of your choice, so although it’s a good safety net, it’s not the end of the world if you’re not in it.
lol thanks for all the info, and yeah I was kinda panicked when I wrote the post haha. thanks a lot!
Many people aren’t in the top 7 or 10 percent of their class and still receive admission to UT, including myself (I was in the top quarter). I’m sure you’ll be fine.
