Anyone admitted to engineering yet?

Two questions.

I applied first choice into mech engineering and second choice into physics. I was accepted today into physics. I just figured I didn't make the cut for mech engineering.

But I don't see anybody on these threads who has been accepted into mech or electrical engineering! Tons of pre-bio, some computer sci and engineering, but no electrical or mech.

Further, when I log in to UCSB, there's a link on the left margin to "Major Changes". On the next page it shows that you can easily change right now into any of the open majors. Then it lists a few closed majors that you can 'request to be reveiwed for'.

Under engineering, it says,

Engineering and Computer Science Majors

* Admission to the College of Engineering or to Computer Science in the College of Letters and Science requires additional evaluation of your records. If you wish to change your major to an engineering or computer science major, send an email with your request to admissions@sa.ucsb.edu. Please include your fall term grades and a listing of the courses in which you are currently enrolled. The subject line should read "Major Change Request". The College of Engineering accepts students for the fall quarter only."

This page, by the way, doesn't seem like a page attached to my account; it seems like a page for all admitted students. It almost seems as if they are saying 'they don't admit directly into engineering ---- you have to ask AFTER your accepted!!!

Two questions...
Anybody accepted into mech or electrical engineering?
What's your take on this?

Same situation… applied for Mech Engineering and was placed in second choice- Computer Science. Haven’t noticed any Mech Eng acceptances either.

I got accepted to mechanical engineering.

@33dmjjm

Ok, congrats.

I’m going to send in the email asking to be evaluated for it. Maybe I’ll see you there.

where is there ???

What you will probably have to do is take a few classes that are required for ME and achieve a certain gpa in those classes to transfer in to the major.

@theleakers

there…is mech engineering at sb.

@norris212

I already looked at the ‘change major’ requirements on their website. They say that there will only be limited spots ‘after you start at ucsb’, and they will rank requests by GPA. It would be a little risky to bank on that.

i was accepted for mech too

My daughter was accepted Mech Engr also

OK, I guess we can put this thread to rest. People have been accepted the mech engineering. As I had originally thought, I didn’t make the cut. I’ll send in the email and hope for the best. Thanks all.

I got in for Computer Engineering yesterday.

Applied to mech engineering, but admitted to my second choice- economics honors program? Seems odd I’d qualify for honors, but not get my first choice. Does anyone know the cut off for honors program? Anyone admitted to mechanical engineering willing to share their stats?
Thanks

^
I’m pretty sure their honors program is only for the college of letters and science

I got into mech, but I’m not sure whether i want UCSB or UCSD…help?

The SB vs SD question is asked a lot on these boards. I was in the same boat last year for mech and chose UCSB. You’re gonna have to visit the schools if you haven’t already. I was pretty much set on SD until I went to each campus back to back. To me it was obvious that I would enjoy UCSB more. I felt like the atmosphere in SB was more laid back and less competitive and I also preferred the campus, so I chose SB. I love the lifestyle here; I feel like when you’re in engineering you need something to balance out the stress, and the atmosphere here does balance it out well. I don’t think that balance would be there at UCSD.

So visit both schools and see which you prefer.

And check the reviews for both schools at this site: students review.com
UCSD gets a ton of bad reviews, and I’m sure the school isn’t as bad as a lot of the reviews say, but it definitely shows a trend.
