Admitted! How to change from "Undeclared" to Eng?

Turns out I was admitted today! Congratulations to all the fantastic folks out there who were also admitted. If you weren't, I know you'll find some place great. :)

I applied as an "Undeclared" major, which apparently defaults to the College of Letters & Sci. Now, I've pretty much decided that I want to do engineering now (EE), which is a different college. How do I go about declaring that? I'm hoping it's just a simple process...

Am I wrong?

Any tips would be great. Thanks.

Changing to the College of Engineering or to Computer Science in the College of Letters and Science requires additional evaluation of your records and may not be possible because of demand for space. If you wish to change your major to an engineering or computer science major, send an email with your request to admissions@sa.ucsb.edu. Please include your fall term grades and a listing of the courses in which you are currently enrolled. The subject line should read “Major Change Request”. The College of Engineering accepts students for the fall quarter only.

Sounds reasonable. Can anyone confirm this?

My son was accepted into undeclared in L&S but he applied for computer engineering. "We regret that we were not able to offer you admission to the College of Engineering. The number of highly qualified applicants far exceeded the number of available spaces.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I also have a similar issue.
I got accepted to pre-econ/math in L&S, but I’ve decided I want to go into pre-econ/accounting
Should I also send an email to admissions@sa.ucsb.edu and follow the format that Billy suggested?

Any insight would be appreciated

basic answer: It’s going to take you at least three quarters here to change to Engineering.

complicated answer: too many people here are trying to change from Letters&Science to Eng. You can apply to change colleges after freshmen year. I think I’ve met maybe one or two sophomores who transferred in to ChemEng. after the first year because the spots just aren’t available. If you really want engineering here and you didn’t get in through the basic admissions process , you’re better off transferring from a JC.

Is Electrical Engineering hard to get into? I know that CompSci/ChemE/MechE are all super hard but what about EE?

I would say that of the engineering majors here, EE would theoretically be the easiest to appeal/transfer into. Mechanical would be on the other end of the spectrum.

Are all people (such as 3younguns’s son) that applied to an engineering major but were accepted to L&S told “We regret that we were not able to offer you admission to the College of Engineering…?” I am slightly confused, as I set ChE as my intended major on the UC Application (with CCS Chemistry as the “Alternate Major”) and received no notification about a rejected application to the College of Engineering.

Aside from the congratulatory fluff, the admissions page said only that “Our records indicate that you applied for the Chemistry and Biochemistry major in the College of Creative Studies. The College of Creative Studies will notify you separately about your admission to their program.” (Accepted Major: Chemistry and Biochemistry, CCS).

My apologies if I’m missing some terribly obvious solution to the question.

Hmm, I was pretty surprised to have been switched to L&S undeclared. I’ve spent the last 6 years of my life devoted to CS, and demonstrated it throughout my personal and professional life, especially in my personal statements.

I can’t imagine why any human at the admissions office would think I would go to UCSB undeclared if they had read my personal statements and understood how devoted am I to CSE and CSE alone. Don’t imagine most people like paying 4 years of tuition to do something they clearly don’t want to do.

I’m pretty sure they used a computer to sort people out by the numbers this year. Feel kind of bad that they gave me a spot that could have gone to somebody else. If I didn’t make the cut, I expected to be rejected outright.

If you want to do engineering and can’t get into the program, just do Physics and Math courses. You can get into most engineering schools for graduate studies. Don’t worry so much.

Last year DS applied as a Mech Eng major. He was accepted as a Comp Sci major. Was told he wouldn’t be able to switch, so declined to attend. Very impacted major.

go to the COE office of undergraduate studies and they will sorted things out…you can just walk in, no need to make an appointment. if youre not nearby, just call them…

theyll probably tell you to submit a change of major form or something like that…make sure you meet the requirements. the main issue is trying to get all your classes; some of majors you dont even get to register on gold, you have to use the waitlist by default. but if you can get the reqs done, youre basically in…

A lot of students this year just emailed the department of the major they wanted to switch into and most were able to. It won’t hurt to shoot an email expressing interest in the major and asking if there were anyway to switch.
