Anyone applying to the Market and Social Sytems Engineering Program?

I'm just curious who else is applying ED to the MKSE program in SEAS.

I am too. How many people do you think they are gonna accept into it/how competitive is it going to be? I put systems engineering as my fall back.

I’m not sure how many people they’re going to accept, but I imagine it’ll be a few. Part of the reason I posted this was to see how competitive it’s going to be. I dont think many people are ED’ing to this program, since it’s new and all. We’ll see, but im nervous. I think it’ll be less competitive since its a brand new program. I doubt many people will ED to it.

Hopefully we’re the only ones people applying ED. I would hate to get rejected from such a sweet major.

Yeah that would be great! I doubt we are. I’m really curious on how many people they will be accepting. It seems like a interesting major. I can’t wait till december 15th.

I actually decided to ED to it as well, because it’s kind of in line with what I want to do anyway. It’s a very, very cool major, I have to agree.

Looks like its just the 3 of us. That would be great. 100% ED acceptance rate.

One can only hope! If all of us are accepted, we’ll all be in the same classes! :)

If it makes you two feel better, I’m currently working on supplement. Yes, the one due tomorrow.

I just had to ditch my boyfriend at a party to do this. I’m actually quite nervous.

No worries. I finished the supplement this morning. How long is yours? And, I’m really nervous. There is so much uncertainty.

I know!!! It’s hard because there’s nothing tangible to compare to because this is the first time they’ve ever had this major. We have no numbers, no acceptance rates, no stats to determine where we place!
And mine’s pretty long, I’m cutting it down now.
About 800 words, and it needs to be 500-600
What about you?

Uh oh. Mines 800 words. I really tried to cut it down, but I felt like I needed everything. At least my Common App Essay is just over 500 words. Hopefully, that makes up for it haha. I really wish they said how many students they expect admitting. I tried looking, but I couldn’t find anything.

Yeah, mine’s 750ish. But I mean they said “brief” essay…two pages and maybe a little more is pretty brief

How hard do you guys think it’ll be to get in?

Hopefully, not too bad. I’m getting antsy though, I keep thinking that even with a 35% acceptance rate, that’s still 65% getting rejected, which is probably going to include me. Did you guys do the single-degree option?

I’m not sure about the 800 words, I just assumed that the original Penn essay is only supposed to be a page (500 words) and because this essay is in lieu of the actual Penn supplement, it should follow the same rules. The Admissions only wants to read 500 word essays, so I figured mine should be about that as well.

Did that make any sense?

Yeah, I think of it that way also. I’m probably in the lower tier of applicants. I put SEAS computer science ED for my single degree my option. I’m really curious on who else is applying. So far its only us three.

And yeah that does make sense. I hope 800 words doesn’t hurt me. It’s too late to change it now :-/.

Okay time for some shifty math. If Penn Engineering is going to accept the same size of class (410 students) and each major (14 of them) roughly has the same number of students, then each major would have about 30 students. But since that’s not true, its probably more like 20-30 spots. So, since Penn accepts about 1/4 of its students ED that means there are about 4-8 ED spots to this major.

Dang, that kinda makes me nervous

If that’s right. I’m screwed. Unless, we’re the only ones doing ED.

My guess is 50% acceptance. Dec. 15 needs to hurry up!

It’s going to be 45 long days.

If it makes you feel better, Mathematician, I think the actual “percent of the class accepted early decision” is 31%, which is closer to 1/3 of the class than 1/4…

But I think ** holycau’s ** estimate is probably just around right. It’s hard to say.

Also maybe the Admissions will want to accept more ED applicants to this major because it’s new and they want to guarantee that there is at least a few people who will be in it? Particularly, being the first year and all.
