Just want to get a whole perspective.

my interviewer hinted that he hated MIT in some ways

you can buy an IHTFP hat :P

yes! I have a shirt!

then again I don't go there....but my dad works there...and he's watching you!!! muahahahahahaha

hahahahaha ...man

My son's already gone back to Boston, but I can answer that he is very happy and can't imagine being at any other school.

thats good to hear

My freshman year was horrible and very hard to adjust. But now MIT is pretty enjoyable.

um.
While I know MIT is a great school, I'm sure there are some kids who legitimately hate it (just like everything else). I just doubt they would post on an MIT online board if so :)

I hear that a lot of kids really hate the campus because it is really not "collegiate" in that there is not a lot of old brick buildings with ivy, etc.

Fear the sponge!

my friend who is from CA just hates the ice-chilling wind of winter and spring

My son said if he ever needs to see Ivy on buildings he can walk down the street - he only cares what goes on inside the buildings.

I just read a Princeton Review Colleges book that quoted,
"It is better to be from MIT, than to attend MIT."

My son however loves MIT.

"My son however loves MIT."

Manyhats, do you have 2 sons? You have mentioned the son who is a high school senior. Do you mean that he loves MIT based on his summer experience, or do you have an older one already attending MIT.

I would proffer this quote from Professor Andrew Tanenbaum, one of the most foremost computer scientists in the world, who did his undergrad at MIT.

"Nobody likes M.I.T. People respect it. I respect it. But like it? Does anyone like taking a drink from a fire hose? I am still in awe of the place."

http://www.cs.vu.nl/~ast/home/faq.html

Here is Tanenbaum's biography

it's getting that time when the newness has worn off, but freshman year is the time you're the most likely to think it's the most enchanting place on the world

research has shown that in the future, 10, 20 years down the line, freshman year is the year you're most likely to remember

Really? Darn. Had I known, I wouldn't have wasted so much time messing around with some college buddies :P.

Two things to fear: The sponge, and the windtunnel during winter!
