Anyone drive a stick?

Just got my first car- a 1977 VW BUS (hippie van)

My dad drove it home for me considering I still need to learn how to drive a manual transmission.

Anyone else learning/currently drive stick?

I’ve learned to drive one, I don’t drive one on a daily basis though.
I think its fun for a little bit, but gets a little irritating
I know people who SWEAR by manual transmissions though

My girlfriend can drive a stick, if you catch my drift. ;)

I drive a stick on a daily basis for about a year now.

Ok i read this post and knew there would be some sexual references. in case no one thought of it, thats what she said

No people thought of it, just no one thought it was a good idea to actually say it. O.o

I am buying a 1995 Ford Probe GT for $1800 with a 5-speed manual. Both of my parents have driven stick shift before, but have converted to automatics for some reason, but my dad will probably teach me the basics. Driving a stick shift is so much more fun than an automatic, I don’t care how long it takes, I am going to learn!

My truck is an automatic, but I know how to drive a stick. It’s not that complicated, you’ll figure it out fine. After a few hours of practice, you should have the basics down.

And while manuals are “funner” to drive, they’re a pain in the ass in traffic, driving through town, or anywhere that requires you to stop and start often.

i have to learn in a '99 integra, those stupid rare blue ones so i have to be extra careful with it.
… i have to take my license test in it.

why would you ever get that car

I only have my permit. I wanna learn stick though, I’m probably gonna ask my dad to teach me. Well if I get a stick car I want either an h2 or wrangler, its rare to get them manual though.

But if my first car isn’t stick I think ill live, ill definitely get one in the future though!

Yes, my car is a manual. It’s really not that difficult to learn. Devote a few hours to learning in an empty parking lot

Not after you become used to driving a manual. My friend drives a 01 Prelude with a 5-speed and downshifting and up shifting in town or in traffic comes natural to him now. At first, I know it will be hell, but you can just leave the car in 1st gear when the traffic is moving so slow instead of shifting.

^ what are you talking about. unless the traffic is gonig about 3 miles per hour then you should not be in first gear

When I got my license I was lucky enough to get a performace sedan… no doubt i willingly chose to get a stick. They are much more fun and you can drive them harder!

Driving a stick is a lot more fun. It’s not too hard to learn either. Driving an automatic is like driving a go-cart after driving a manual. And as far as traffic and whatever it is a pain but it’s not that big of a deal. Also I second cs, you should definitely not stay in first, in fact you should basically only use first to start your car (at least that’s what I was taught).

i doubt any guys like to drive a stick…

I counter your claim with previous posters as counter examples.

Look at this video, he stays in 1st gear while in traffic. I asked my dad and he said it’s fine to stay in 1st while traffic is moving slowly. You are wrong cs, 1st gear goes up to like 10 mph, which is fine for slow traffic.

ok brah you win. go out now into traffic and see what happens when you stay in 1st
