I got rejected two days ago and I know so many people that got rejected this year. I feel like they under-admitted this year. I'm going to try to appeal. Do you think they'll accept as many people from the appeal list as last year?

For my school, there were a lot of kids admitted. There were also at least 13 that got accepted into the “honors” program, which said that they only accept 200 a year. A few others and I have decided that we don’t believe that it is that low of a number, because that would mean that over 5% came from one school. Overall, I think they accepted a good amount. At least from my school.

It kinda seems like they did to me too, but that might just be because they received a lot more applicants this year… Either way I’m staying hopeful that they did (I got waitlisted). UCI is my top choice. I’m sorry about your rejection, I wish you the best of luck on your appeal!

I feel like they under admitted this year. It seems like only students with super high stats got in which means they will be under enrolled because those same students probably got into better schools. I know kids with 4.2’s and 2000+ sat’s that got rejected. Out of the 20 or so people who got in at my school I only know of 2 that are even considering going to uci. Hopefully the same is true at every other school and that uci will be under enrolled because i really want to get off the waitlist!

same situation as aaryan520 at my school…im appealing so hopefully i’ll get in

I don’t think they under-admitted. I’m pretty sure it’s that most people who post on these college confidential threads have godly stats, and that getting into a UC just really, really, really depends. I go to a small school and the senior class size is 147. I’m pretty sure around 20 or so got in to UCI, with two in the honors program, and of the 20, 5 or so only had SAT scores around the 1500’s. And for those 5, the only UC that admitted them was UCI, so they’re probably gonna go there. Not to say that those students aren’t smart people though, they had the AP scores and the gpa to back their application up. On the flip side, however, there are a few students here with solid SAT scores (from around 1700 to 2000-ish) that got waitlisted for UCI, so it just really depends I guess…

Well…all schools are getting EVER more competitive, and infinitely so for the UCs. If you look at the trends, last year’s average admitted student GPA jumped about .2 and the SAT jumped almost 200 points from the year before. (4.01/1950ish last year) If this were to happen again this year, then those students with “super high/godly” stats would be the new norm. I know UCI underadmitted last year, but the upward trend is constant. It is also likely that UCI wants to become more selective and “elitist” as I have heard UCSD and UCD are doing.
