I got a letter from Johns Hopkins telling me to apply.

It kind of confused me. I'm only in the top 11% of my class, 1960 SATs, and just slightly above average all-around.

Anyone else get it?

Umm.. i think all the colleges tell random people to apply.
I just got a letter from Princeton telling me to apply. Doesnt mean anythign though.

True. Those letters are based on PSAT scores I think. What did you get on it?

yea a lot of people get random letters from different colleges telling them to apply. i got a lot of stuff from upenn, cornell, and rice.

you have to meet their mininum requirement in order for them to send you letter.
it means that you are qualified to apply.

yeah, seriously, I've gotten crap for Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Penn, Stanford, MIT, Caltech, etc. If they actually knew me, they'd know I'm not of that caliber. Don't pay attention to those letters.

same as colinization here, I think I've gotten spam from all the ivys.
Caltech's probably the cockiest though... Their letter basically said "I know your applying to us"
and i'm like... nope

Yeah, Caltech is insufferable. And the equations all over the envelopes? Are they actually trying to only attract nerdy kids? See, that's one of the things I liked about Hopkins' presentation- they essentially said they'd rather have smart, social competent kids than brilliant, reclusive geeks.

Are you saying I'm not a brilliant, reclusive geek? :)

you very well may be, but JHU is not catering exclusively to you ;)

Obviously, and if they were, that wouldn't be a very good idea.

^I agree; that's why I praised them. They said they're "trying to correct our image as a school full of people with no lives who spend every waking moment studying."

Personally, I think that perception is rather antiquated but for some reason, it has stuck around. It is definitely not true.
