Anyone else get Financial Aid notifcation?

I just got mine in the mail today and I have to say I'm very pleased. WPI gave me an additional $8,000 scholarship in addition to my Presidential Scholar, so in combination with the loan package they have set up for me, my total aid comes out at around $30,000. Has anyone else received their packages yet?

IndestuctibleSD - Congrats… What did you get in Merit scholarships? Where you EA?

My initial merit scholarship was ~$12,000 per year, and I’m assuming the additional $8,000 scholarship I received with my notification is based off of need since my family has an average income and my sister is also in college.

So realistically, it’s $20,000 in “free” money, and then the other potential $10,000 is from loans, which I’ll need to discuss if it’s worth it with my family.

EDIT: I was accepted EA Round 1

The merit scholarship was noted in the acceptance letter?

@Vloria- No, it was not. I received my initial scholarship about a week or two after my acceptance in December.

The package I’m talking about is the Financial Aid package (which is based of of your FAFSA forms and CSS profile). I received opportunities featuring a bunch of loans, as well as an $8,000 scholarship, which I can only assume is need-based.

Ohhh I see. I did not receive any notifications yet. Did you do the supplemental scholarship application? I was thinking of doing it but I don’t know how much of a difference it will make.

I didn’t do the supplemental scholarship application.

Oh ok that’s good. I should be getting my aid letter sometime soon.

Yeah, hopefully yours comes soon! I live in MA, so logically mine would probably arrive before yours reaches New York.

I received a 25000 merit scholarship today but I do not know about my “need” financial aid as of yet.

Then you’re probably a Valedictorian, a National Merit Finalist, or you just have insane stats. Congratulations!

Thank you. On my college applications I am salutatorian but my rank went up and now I am first.

Any international received a need based financial aid notification yet ???

A WPI financial aid officer told me that they have two kinds of aid. Merit money is awarded based on the applicants accomplishments and does not take financial situation into account. The merit letters get sent about a week after acceptance letters, and are decided upon by the admissions office. Need based aid is figured by the financial aid office and based upon the FAFSA. The need based awards are sent later, and may include grants (that do not have to be repaid) as well as loans.

I just got awarded $25,500 per year as a WPI Marshall/Chavez/Means Scholarship recipient. I am hoping to receive my financial aid notice soon.

Congrats, Trunks! That is a great offer.
