Anyone else waitlisted with very high stats?

Hi,

I recently applied to Mines, and yesterday I learned that I had been placed on a waitlist. This was quite surprising to me, considering my statistics.

2350 SAT (750M, 800CR 800W)
4.0 UW GPA
Moderate to good ECs, including part-time job.
Homeschooled student who participates in dual enrollment classes at a community college. For the past two years, most of my classes have been at this community college.
Applied with Golden Application
State: NC

I already got into NC State, which is a better school for me anyway, but this news concerns me. Does anyone have an idea of why I might have been waitlisted?

Same thing happened to me. Luckily I only applied due to the golden application. It is most likely because you applied late in the admissions process and they had already filled up all of their spots considering they do rolling admissions.

Many colleges who believe an applicant is unlikely to attend the school, based on lateness of application, or lack of visiting, will be wait listed. Tufts University does this too. If you want to attend Mines, call them up and tell them why you want to go there, and you will probably get off the wait list. Mines has limited housing. One girl we know who committed to a different college in Washington state, changed her mind and had to live in a bed and breakfast in Golden for her first semester. This is unusual and its because she changed her mind well into the summer. They had space for her but no dorm.

We found that a summary of high-school courses, with a clear description of where the grades came from (i.e. "mommy grades, Tutor, B&M class, etc.) was essential in applying as a homeschooler. Examples are on hs2coll yahoo group (which you probably already know about). You might see if they would find that helpful now.

Accepted from the waitlist! We’re going to check out the campus Friday!

@Collgbrwsr

Congratulations Collgbrwsr! I got into through regular admissions this year for Summer Admissions, and I can say that CSM is a phenomenal school! It’s awesome that you got in, as its really getting competitive! Unfortunately, due to the high OOS cost ~40,000 a year (even w/ scholarships), there was no way I could attend… although CSM was my number 1. I hope that it works out for you and congrats again!
