Anyone familiar with Hampden Sydney

My son currently a junior and I visited HS a month ago. This is his top choice school. I am concerned about tuition and small size. He’s about 3.0 GPA cumulative, had a rough sophomore year. Has stayed close to 3.8 Junior year. Waiting for SAT’s but if PSAT is any indicator safe number is 1050. I loved the school and the feeling of community, but am terrified we won’t be able to pay for it! Can pay probably 30 a year but not 50! Any feedback, or thoughts on HS I would appreciate!

A good friend of my DH went to Hampden Sydney years ago, and raved about it. It is a terrific school. A 3.8 student has a better shot at getting accepted than a 3.0 - but it is better to have the rough year in soph year instead of junior year. I would suggest having a conversation with your son’s high school guidance counselor.

There are a variety of grants and scholarships available at H-SC. If your son is still interested, contact the Financial Aid office to get an accurate idea of the real cost. If you make sure the Admissions Office knows your son is serious about attending (it looks like he would be accepted), they can make sure he is considered for aid. Just come right out and tell them what you can pay. They are used to negotiating price.
