My son is thinking of attending St Joseph's College Brooklyn. Seems to get good reviews from Princeton Review & USNews.

I am hoping to hear from alumni or even students about the school - likes, dilsikes, or whatever.

I know of someone who went there. She transferred to NYU after doing well there though. A surprising amount of people go there (5,000), but apparently it doesn’t have a good atmosphere and nobody is really interested in a marketplace of ideas… It is more a school to go to with the sole purpose of getting a degree and a better job at the end. Even though St. John’s has lost some of its flair over the years, it is still a very respected school in the local area, has your son checked it out?

no, St Joseph’s had some interest in him for basketball and we were trying to get some feedback from students or alumni. We are going to visit campus this coming week. I like the idea that students are there for getting a degree but don’t want to deprive him of the “whole” college experience as well.

Also, we are from out of state. The small campus, in the city had appeal to him. He would be housing off campus with many students from surrouding schools, which was also appealling.

Brooklyn Heights is a pretty classy neighborhood as far as city neighborhoods go. The kids I’ve seen walking around with St. Josephs jackets look pretty contented. I’ve never been inside any of the buildings, but, I have to imagine one downside would be space. But, again, I think school spirit can level a playing field.
