I'm a freshman applicant for fall 2007. Today I got an e-mail from UCSD's ArtPower, which apparently is their performing arts thing and has info about upcoming dance and music performances and such. At first I was like, oh look, they stuck me on a random mailing list. I figured it was something they sent to everyone, like that thing about the Chancellor a few days ago. Then I realized that the e-mail had been sent to [my first initial][my middle initial][my last name]@ucsd.edu, and it had somehow ended up in my Gmail account. What is this supposed to mean? I thought it had something to do with my signing up for TritonLink or whatever, but I don't know. Did anyone else get it?

No... I wish I did though...

i didn't get one.

If you get an official student email account from UCSD, it does not contain a middle initial. BTW, ArtPower emails are sent to those on guest mailing lists ,as well, since the ArtPower program invites the surrounding community. I am a transfer student from last year. So, if anybody has any questions I'll try to answer them.

I have many UCSD friends with their middle initials in their accounts. When your last name is incredibly common, you probably can't go by just your first initial.
And I'm sure non-students can get the emails, but the question is why I'm on the mailing list at all and why it was addressed to that email specific to my name.

shrug

My middle initial is on my UCSD e-mail address.

if someone from the past or present has the same first inital and last name then a middle name is used... like the first person to ever go to ucsd with the name john smith would be jsmith and every other john smith after would have thier middle name or a number like j03smith ...j04smith... and etc etc
lol
but the whole email thing ... i dont know how you got one.... lol...

No, but I did get a random thing about Black History Month today...

i got a random library one.. look at my thread...
