Did anyone got accepted off the waitlist this year? 2012

I want to know this too. Post people!!

Same here! I’ve read up on the wait list statistics, they’re rather frightening! I really hope they have empty spots.

I know from personal experience that Carleton has more enrollees than they anticipated, so unless a ton of them jump ship to other schools there won’t be any additional offers made.

Dear Sammy,

It has been more than a month since we notified you that the best we could offer you is a place on our waiting list. I write now with the news that we have obtained our class as of May 1st, having heard from a sufficient number of students who have accepted our offer of admission.

Unfortunately, this means that we will not be going to our own waitlist and offering you admission to Carleton. I know this must be very disappointing news and not what either of us might have hoped for given your patient waiting to hear from us post May 1st. I do regret that we will not be able to consider your candidacy at Carleton any further.

No matter how we might express it, this letter is a final acknowledgement that we have no more space in the Class of 2016. The fact that we reach this point has to do with our small size and not your good qualifications or potential for future success in college. We trust that you have made a firm commitment to pursue your college studies at another fine institution as of May 1st and will devote your best energies to that pursuit. Our biggest regret is that your performance will not shine forth at Carleton. Again thanks for your strong interest in Carleton.

I received a different message.

Dear (Name),

It has been over a month since we wrote offering you a place on the Carleton waitlist. I wish I could be writing with the good news that we now have space available, but that is not the case.

We have, in fact, obtained our desired class with even some overflow in total numbers. This may change as we experience some withdrawals from the class due to the waitlist activity of other colleges and universities. We cannot predict what may happen; the chances that space may open up are slim at best, based on our experience over many years. However, there is a slight possibility.

We are willing to keep you on an extended waitlist through the month of May in case a space may open up. Unless we hear differently from you, we will keep you on our waitlist. If you have decided that you are no longer interested in Carleton, please let us know immediately, so that we will not needlessly call on you should an opening arise.

While I cannot yet predict a final outcome on our availability of a space in the class, I do appreciate your patience with this process. I also hope that you have made a firm commitment to attend another college in order to pursue your college studies this coming fall. We will assess our class size once again in early June and be in contact with you with more definitive news then.

Thanks for your ongoing strong interest in Carleton.

Sincerely,

I guess some people remain on the wait-list while others are no longer being considered.

Ouch. Rejected from the college, reject once again from their wait list. Fabulous.

It is still possible. Across the board, more students are being put on waitlist than ever before. Last year, I decided attend Carleton when they took me off the waitlist, but my other school was overenrolled by about 100 students, so I guess they weren’t sorry to see me go! But the situation becomes ever more unpredictable. Make sure you all have sent a letter of continued interest and keep yourselves on their radar. Good luck!

Don’t feel too bad if you didn’t make it off the waitlist, this year was the most selective in Carleton’s history.
