Name the schools you got accepted to without taking a single honors course. List what your major is, why you didn't take honors and why you think you got in despite lack of rigour.

Part 2: Apply this same question to those who got in with a GPA below 3.5 after the end of Fall semester the year prior to transfer.

Accepted: UCSD, UCLA
Did not take 1 honors class
Why did I get in despite lack of rigour? I think this is a poor statement, why would somebody take 1 honors course for no reason, the only way you can get TAP certified is by taking I think 5 or more so why even waste my time on an honors course with absolutely no benefit. They don’t look at your honors courses and give you an upper hand at all unless you are applying with TAP. I got in because I busted my butt in all of my classes and didn’t need an honors course to prove my “rigour”.

Rigour is just the word people use to describe tough classes. Thats all. Thanks for the information because every time I asked a TAP counselor, they would say “just because you cant get tap certified does not mean you should not take honors” and I was always skeptical. So they really dont look at honors at all unless you have TAP? This must mean that weighted GPA does not exist during the app process for transfers.

I was told that only UCLA looks at your honors courses when they get the honors TAP certification from your counselor in the Spring. If you don’t have TAP then honors courses won’t help you. Besides, when you fill out your UC application and list all the courses you’ve taken, you can’t really designate them as being honors. So the remaining UC’s won’t even know you took honors courses until they receive your transcripts, which doesn’t happen until after you are admitted.

I would recommend not taking honors courses unless you are for sure going to be TAP certified.

I honestly don’t think Honor courses give you a boost in admissions. It might seperate someone from another who have the same gpa in very impacted majors and give them a boost(and i’m thinking its those “pre-______ majors” ie pre business econ etc), but even then your gpa still has to be high enough up there(for a situation like that). I doubt they’ll take a 3.4 with honors over a 3.9 with no honors even in the impacted majors. Generally speaking UC transfer admissions is very simple and specific to follow. Its all numbers and having ge’s, pre-reqs completed.

My CC is very small so it does not offer any honor sections. Obviously we have nothing like TAP either. Major suckage if you’re trying to get in for a competitive major like Biz Econ which allocates most of its spots for TAP students.

My CC can barely fill calc based physics and multi-variable/diff equations sections. Our engineering classes were almost cut out completely two years in a row now. There’s no way the school could enroll/afford an honors section in addition to the normal section. I got in because I completed the pre-reqs, had good enough grades, acceptable ECs, and decent essays. Got in for

Applied for Berkeley’s Haas program, went down and visited and was very put off by the attitude+curriculum of Haas. I was more interested in the math stuff and wanted more flexibility in choosing my classes. Was thinking about reapplying (or asking to be considered) for math, but I really liked UCLA anyway. Withdrew my app from Berkeley.

EDIT: My GPA was well above 3.5, doubt I would have gotten in if it were lower.

My friend went to UCR out of high school with 4.3 GPA, a grip of AP classes, football team starter, marching band, got like 100% on asvab and ridiculous SAT’s…but could not get accepted to any other school because he did not have a single hour of volunteer work or extra curricular activities off campus. This is proof that (out of high school at least) you NEED to volunteer or show an interest in participating in the community.

I got into UCLA without a single honors course. Although in my opinion most of the science courses you will take require more time and work than any honors course anyway. Specifically O-chem and its lab.

i took, like, five honors classes (out of the six required for TAP certification), but forgot to list it on my application. Poli. Sci. major & was accepted to UCLA, UCSD, UCI, and UCR. Didn’t apply to berkeley 'cause I wouldn’t have gone there + didn’t want to pay the $60. lol
