Anyone getting an iPad tomorrow?

Agreed. The blame should be placed on Adobe instead.

nuff said.

iPad, iPad, everywhere. I just switched on CNN and Campbell Brown is about to do a segment on the iPad.

iPad:
100% more expensive than a netbook with 100% less keyboard.

my advice to the people who want to buy the MBPs. if you plan on lugging the laptop to class everyday, i would go with the 13 inch. i’m specifically buying another mbp 13.3 inch to lug to class everyday. i think the 15 inch is a bit heavy. also, the lower end models aren’t going to suffer a video card downgrade lol i dunno what you’re talking about.
it’s not going to be a complicated upgrade. they’re just refreshing the processor. i’m just waiting for UCSD to give us the newer mbps with a discount. the 13 inch mbp is/was selling for 999 in the ucsd bookstore.

also, the ipad is trash. give me a tablet that can multitask please.

also, i just got this for my mbp.

The results according to CNN:

Pros: useful apps, good for people who want more power/screen from the ipod touch, great for people who want to “stack their media” (i.e. sit in front of a TV with a computer).

Cons: heavy (relatively anyway, 1.5lbs).

Senior editor from CNET adds: “I liked it more than the Kindle, but overall it is not a kindle killer.”

I’m actually getting one tomorrow, but it’s for my brother-in-law who writes a tech blog in Japan, and needs me to turn it around and ship it to him. So I don’t get to play with it.

OMG. beautiful.

ironically, the first thing i did when i got my mbp was install w7 on it ;]

os x is very nice though. i’ll be using it for school.

Are there any that actually can multitask? Multitasking on limited resource mobile platforms would seem to be asking a lot.

Frenis, thanks for the clarification. I had no idea you had inside information about the – well known and as of yet unresolved – Intel-Nvidia chipset issue. I recommend you help all the tech blogs out and give them this information you have, you being superiorly informed.

Also, some of us have experience purchasing laptops, and despite how counterintuitive it is, we are aware that smaller laptops weigh less than bigger ones. I’m just guessing here, but those of us considering larger laptops might have legitimate reasons for wanting discrete graphics, larger screens, and sd/express card slots. But then again, I might just need you to remind me of how awesome you are.

it’s meant to replace a netbook? give me a multitasking tablet. it’s more expensive than a netbook as well, which has a CAMERA too.

i’m not saying there IS a tablet that can multitask, but i’m saying the ipad blows. it’s a glorified ipod with a bigger screen. that simple.

edit: empathyinanarchy

i’m not a ■■■■■, i just can’t stand ignorance and i take a step to weed out that ignorance. i’ll answer questions to the best of my ability. i’ve always said that. just don’t ask stupid questions that were answered a page ago.

also, it’s not really insider information. they won’t “downgrade” an upgrade of a laptop. it’s that simple. they’re working on the nvidia chipset that allows you to toggle between what is now the “integrated” graphics and the discrete graphics (9400/9600 in the 15/17 models) without having to logout/restart. the 13 inch model only has the 9400. regardless, they’re still powerful enough to run games, and seeing as how you’re going to be at school… just don’t run games. do work.

i’m interning at an advertising company so i have insider information on OTHER companies like nokia (they make you sign a contract so you don’t leak stuff anyway), but Apple does their stuff with some other company.

edit2: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/02/19/apple_plans_dual_graphics_enhancements_on_future_macbook_pros.html</a></p>

i get my info from tech sites as well btw ;]

edit3: btw you sound sarcastic, and iirc, the 13 inch has an sd card reader as well. i’m sure people have their reasons i’m just giving my opinion on the weight. the 9400 is pretty much discrete, can’t argue with a larger screen either.

well if publishers began to make ebooks for its textbooks, i would definitely buy the ipad or kindle

It’s meant to replace the kindle and upgrade users of the ipod touch-- neither of which multitasks either.

i hacked my ipod touch so it multitasks :)

it’s meant specifically to charter new territory. the keynote said that. jobs specifically pointed out how a “netbook is useless” as well. while it kills the kindle in one app, it’s not an upgrade of an ipod. it’s not THAT portable. you can’t just leave it in your pocket and listen to music.

there are a lot of shortcomings that are a part of the ipad experience that just isn’t practical. i want to multitask, i want to have at least one usb port. that’s it. it’s not practical for use unless you’re old and want to watch movies on the plane/do email on the go. there are far superior products out there that can do the same and more for less.

Frenis that article completely refuted what you originally said. It is a complicated upgrade; the current Intel chipsets are a downgrade from the Nvidia 9400M, which currently resides in the Macbook Pro line, and Macbook line.

READ THE ARTICLE. The 9400M can not be used with Intel’s new chips, so either the low end model gets discrete graphics, making it no longer low end, or the graphics are downgraded. Even the toggling of discrete graphics and integrated cannot be done under the current licensing agreement, with the new chips. It’s not just “upgrading the chips, hardy har” to quote you.

You do realize this is essentially the same thing that is in current macbook pros except now the process will be automated instead of having to log out?

Article came out the 19th of Feb. and they said it only worked for w7. perhaps they made it work for os x. this is what should be rolling out in the next update.

it’s not complicated at all. i’m just stating what’s going to change. i don’t see how stating what changes as being complicated. RAM isn’t going to change; it’s DDR3 1066 already, iirc, they’re going to include nehalem/arrandale <- dunno which/ and the graphics option more likely. regardless, the graphics won’t suffer. the intel integrated graphics have gotten better, but they’re nowhere near the 9400. if the graphics DO suffer, then the price will also be representative.

i don’t know why you’re being aggressive. if i’m wrong, i’ll admit it, ****. i’m just trying to help you guys with a laptop decision. some people regret these decisions you know.

I just don’t like people correcting correct statements, and consequently, being wrong; especially, when they are so confident despite their incorrectness. I apologize for being aggressive, though. I’m a pretty defensive person.

The reason apple products are so successful despite price, and the lack of some very basic features is because they are very well made. The thing is people complain about the IPad not having flash, multi task, a camera, productivity features, gaming power, etc etc. but the thing is most people dont use all of those features. If apple were to add these features, the products would work just like all non apple products do. Slow and choppy as hell. The features most people want on a mobile device is fast internet, nice display, email, music, movies, app store, and nice hardware. Thats it. Mobile apple products do all the basics extremely well, and thats why people like them. They are very easy to use, you dont have to deal with annoying viruses, and a difficult to figure out (for the average joe) OS. Apple does this on purpose. They cut out all the extras in order to make the basics work like a dream. If you want to write a paper, do it on a computer. If you want to do hardocre gaming, do it on a computer. The Ipad is a good product.

We don’t use productivity features on netbooks? multitasking? camera? (video conferencing), flash? to actually get to all the content on the web? k.

non-apple products do? slow and choppy? um… yes, this is why these non-apple products dominate the market.

fast internet isn’t dependent on the device you fool. (and judging by how the iphone is handling the 3G loads, the ipad is going to blow as well. they discontinued selling the iphone in San Fran and New York because ATT’s network couldn’t keep up with the data. They were so swamped they actually stopped selling iphones. fast? lol. ok.) also, you can get the other stuff on other devices as well. nice hardware? have you not kept up with the past well… since apple was born? pc components are often much cheaper than buying it from apple. not to mention that apple is generally at least a generation behind on some components like GPU (less so now, but i5 processors have been in pcs for AGES)

if i had a netbook that only did email, music, movies, yeah i’m sure i could make it work JUST as well as the ipad.

contrary to popular belief, macs CAN get viruses. the only reason that people say they don’t is because of os x’s obscurity in market share. once they gain market share, viruses will show up. it also helps that the majority of viruses out there target windows machines ONLY. more than that, windows and os x are built on two completely different sources of code; with os x a branch off of unix, which inherently limits the user running in administrator mode.

um…os x is just as friendly as windows 7. moreover, windows is what everyone has used at some point in the past. i’d say that’s easier to figure out than starting from os x.

what you’re talking about aren’t “extras.” they’re standards that aren’t present.

for my last point, this deals with an earlier claim you made:

seriously, just look on google or go to youtube and look for “macbook problems.” you’ll find so many. just on my mbp, there is sound coming from the hinges and on the bottom of the computer despite it being unibody.

the macbook air has a cracked hinge in the first revision

no user-removable battery?

please. don’t suck steve jobses ****.

they’re successful because of people like you who will buy a product that is outrageously overpriced despite it doing **** just as well, if not worse, than other products on the market. there is a cult following for apple. apple fanboys will defend a product no matter what – even if it sucks. there are some die-hards who support the damn apple pippin or the apple newton. PLEASE.

i’m not saying apple is bad for everything. there are some very redeeming qualities for apple. their laptops are catching up in terms of technology. although they’re expensive, they’re also really nice. ipods? same. they have plenty of winners in their product line. the ipad is just trash compared to what it could’ve been. if you want amazing, check out the microsoft courier.

Personally i would wait for the second gen ipad with the forward facing camera.

It’s a great device, the reviews have been great and it should sell well but i will wait for the second gen
