Anyone go to college roughly 6 hours away?

I am deciding on Virginia Tech, which is 6 hours away, vs Udel, which is an hour away

I like Virginia Tech a tad more, but I don't know if its worth it for 5 extra hours every time

Any thoughts, current college students?

umm i live about 6 hours away

not going to a school because its a longer drive is the stupidest thing one could do. its not like ur going home a lot - i only go home thanksgiving, christmas, easter (usually fly home friday night leave late sunday for my way back) and then for the summer. I MIGHT go home another time if something comes up. otherwise - ur never going to go home.

I live 5.5 hours from home, and I think its perfect. I only go home about 3 times a semester, so its far enough away for me to be on my own most of the time and be independent. Yet when I do need to go home for a weekend, I can head out after classes and be home that night, and not head back again til sunday afternoon.

I think the middle distance is much better than the extremes...An hour away would just be too close for me, while I wouldnt want to be over 8 hours away as that would suck for driving.

I'm planning on going to the opposite coast for school...as far as I can see distance is just a plus. Sure, it will cost a lot of money to go home, but I've lived with my parents for 17 years...I think seeing them at Christmas and over the summer will be enough.

6 hours is nothing. By train it's probably a really reasonable trip. I wouldn't not pick V-Tech just because of the distance. Ithink even though I'm hugely biased, you should choose which school you like best. You aren't commuting!

you could always find someone from VT that has a car and get a ride with them

Does roughly 6 hours (by plane) count? :)

I'm 6 hours away from home, and sometimes, it can be irritating going home only a few times a school year, but not something that should be the be the difference in choosing schools.

I'm 8 hours away from home and I really like it. I'm far enough away that my parents can't just show up all of a sudden and I'm not expected to come home every weekend or even every month, but close enough that I can get back fairly easily for breaks and don't have to stay at school.

I'm about 5 1/2 hours from school (350 miles) and it's good because i can get home for a weekend if i want, but besides the obvious breaks i've only been home one other weekend in the past 2 years. and it's far enough away to really be independent and in another world from home.

If I had gone to a school that was pretty close/easily accessible from my home, my parents would have probably driven me crazy popping in to check in on me. I don't know if that would be a concern of yours but something to consider.

My parents are some thousands miles away from me. So go figure...

I originally wanted to go to a school about 5 hours away from me, but opted against it for the following reasons:
1) the ride was horrible and the road was not kept up at ALL
2) the town and college were just like the ones here only 5 hours away
3) the rumors of using ropes to get from one class to another in the snow. enough said.

by all means, go to the one farther away if it has what you want.

im 6 hours from home by plane (including transit to and from, waiting in airports and flight). 20 hours for a drive... fun ya?

If you like Vtech better it will be worth it to you.

I am about 5.5 hours away (6 by bus, because I don't have a car). I go visit my parents once for Xmas, once in the summer and maybe another once/twice outside of that...

I'll be going to school across the country. I really dont mind it and I'm really excited. It is for a better education and I'll know I'll benefit in the long run. :D
