Anyone Going Greek?

Hey guys, so i was wondering i was planning on going greek when i transfer in the winter. Is it weird for a junior to rush? Also, do they even select people in winter quarter? Because i know formal recruitment is in the fall, but since i'm going a quarter after i wasn't sure if it was possible.

I’m going to go Greek at Cal. Have a list of which ones I want to choose but from what I heard about the greek system in general, they dont really care what year you are or when you enter - it’s just a matter of whether they like you or not…

I’m not sure…I met some people that go there and they said that Greek Life is the main way people socialize and party. According to these people I met, only 50% of UCB parties, and that’s mostly sororities and frats. This makes me uneasy, since I KNOW I’m not a sorority person, but I also love to party. I think I’ll check it out and definitely see how the vibes are before deciding anything. Oh, but yeah, it’s perfectly acceptable to rush as a junior.

I’m going greek at UCSD  I think it will be a great way to meet people especially as a transfer.

I’m rushing for sure too at UCSD. Frats/sororities are open to everyone and I haven’t heard of any discrimination towards transfers. Fall isn’t the only opportunity to rush; I’ve heard of a lot of big Spring rushes.

best frat/sor in the world would be of course, the Marine Corps. ;]

I was thinking about rushing for a fraternity at UCLA. But I dont know how much time they want you to spend/require and being a science major I will have to see.

e-r-r What is “going greek”? can anybody explain me what it is all about?

fraternities / sororities = greek system = bro-downs galore

yeah i’m having the same issue, being a science major and rushing is going to be difficult but def worth it :)

and kutikayla, have you looked into any of the sororities there yet?

hey sarah  I’ve looked at a couple but I’m really just gonna wait till I get there and meet the girls in person ya know?
are you living on campus in the village sarah?

i’m transferring in a few more quarters, but if everything works out i’ll be living in the village. but i talked to a friend and she told me a bunch stereotypes for each of the sororities. it’s pretty funny. where are you transferring from?

so, sarah, when you say rushing is ‘definitely worth it’, what you’re really saying is that you can’t wait to pick and choose the hackneyed cliche by which to both define yourself, and be defined.

i mean, if that’s what you’re into…

that aside, i do have some fundamental disagreements with the greek system – the arbitrary allocation of ‘brothers/sisters’ despite their merits (or lack thereof); being subjected to a sometimes skewed and hierarchical value system; the creation of this mental safety net that one can fall back on the moment one starts to evaluate his individuality, ‘because being a ∑∆Ω is all i ever have to be…’ – but despite my contentions, i won’t fail to acknowledge the booze, broads and debauchery begot by barbarous sorority babes and bad-ass-bro! frat barties… so, cheerz… especially if you’re hot.

chill out pink… you sound like that crazy asian kid from vtech. throwing around words like debauchery. if she wants to have a good time and make the most out of her college experience then good for her.

you chill out…

“so, cheerz… especially if you’re hot.”

debauchery debauchery debauchery debauchery debauchery

I am seriously interested in joining Phi Gamma Delta or “fiji” for short.

Does anybody know if members are required to live inside the house while attending school?

i’m from diablo valley college up in the bay  what are the stereotypes please inform me sarah haha

dreakol , are you going to Cal? Im interested in fiji too… they have a sick house, lol.

just by looking at the chapter websites on ucsd i remember liking Delta Gamma, I believe Chi Omega.

@Chibi: yeah, Ill be at Berkeley this fall. From looking around the websites and second hand information from current students, fiji seems to be the best.

…and yeah, their house is pretty cool.
