Hey Guys,

I posted here a lot over the summer (insert obsessed summer cc'ers shout out here) - since school started I haven't been on here too often. But I had a question so I figured I would post on the good old transfer forum again and see what kind of responses I get.

I just recently transfered to UC Berkeley and so far I'm really enjoying it. I am pleased with my classes and clubs, and feel like I'm meeting a lot of great people. Thing is, many of my newer female friends are in sororities. I have noticed that the greek population here at berkeley doesn't really center around a foundation of extreme snobbery and elitism. Of course, there are 'typical' greeks wherever you go to school, but I feel like I relate to my greek friends more than I thought I would. While the sorority girls I've been hanging out with are generally pretty feminine (girly-girl, perhaps) and like to shop and get their nails done, they're also down to earth, intelligent and kind. I feel like, for the most part, I fit in with their type very well.

Okay, enough rambling. My question is, do you think rushing a greek house is a bad idea for junior transfers? Do any of you know how they might view transfers when it comes to selecting a pledge class? I've asked around and have been getting mixed responses. I know some guys that rushed fraternities as junior transfers, but fraternities are generally more informal and laid back about the whole rushing process.

By the way, if it seems like an okay idea, I would rush in the spring ('06), which is far less formal than fall rush. I didn't do fall rush because I had a lot on my plate already and I never really expected to be truly interested in joining a sorority anyway. But, now I'm having second thoughts and would potentially like to join.

Before anyone jumps to conclusions and asks why a mature, experienced transfer student would want to join a sorority, I guess I should say that I'm only 19 (younger than a lot of my fellow transfers here) and really value the whole college experience. I'm not just here to rush my way to a degree. I might stay past my '07 graduation date and complete a double major. Also, when it comes to greeks, I already know all the stereotypes and horror stories, so please save any negative bashing.

Thanks!
